I made a list of Recommended Zombie movies for a blog so I thought I'd repost for the betterment of Zombie Edification

The Holy Trinity of Zombie Films
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead

Return of the Living Dead (the 80s ZomCom (Zombie Comedy) classic)

Dance of the Dead (recent excellent addition to the ZomCom genre)

Dallamorte Dellamore aka Cemetery Man (90s cult classic. bizarre and brilliant)

Shaun of the Dead (everyone should know this one by now)

[REC] (truly scary straight for scares Zombie flick. MUCH MUCH better than the still enjoyable remake Quarantine)

Braindead (Peter Jackson best film imho, and unofficially the goriest film of all time. ZomCom perfection)

Dead Snow (Nazi Zombies + Snow boarders = bloody good fun)

Night of the Creeps (another 80s classic released finally on DVD this month)

Doghouse ( a town filled with man hating female zombies. Over the top fun)

Automaton Transfusion (excellent low budget gem aka Zombie Transfusion in the UK)

Undead (fun Aussie flick.)

Planet Terror (grindhouse homage from Robert Rodriguez. over the top splat stick gore filled excellence, and Rose McGowan with a machine gun leg)

Zombie Flesh Eaters (what #9 Craig incorrectly called Zombie. Its also known as Zombi 2 to cash in on the recent Romero films. A Lucio Fulchi classic)

Deadgirl (brilliant!! disturbing, and not easily forgotten indy gem)

Fido (Billy Connolly as a pet zombie in an alternative 1950s US)

Re-Animator (HP Lovecraft based 80s cult classic. Seriously ghoulish fun.)

Dead Set (UK TV series... exceptionally well written and extremely nasty at times. Brilliant. Funny. Tense, and Terrifying. Sensational!)

Dead and Buried (exceptional semi-zombie film. Beware the DVD in NZ is of poor quality better to import)

Slither (fun recent alien infection/zombie film. The fantastic Nathan Fillion just oozes charm in this)

Mulberry Street (indy film from 2005. Rat bite zombie plague)

I Sell the Dead (Pippin and Hellboy (Dominic Monaghan and Ron Perlman) lead historic ZomCom. Delightfully english)

Doesn't mean I don't enjoy them still though. Possibly it's because the "thing" was a demon, instead of a ghost? I could be convinced about the existence of ghosts which would make it a little more realistic for me.. And maybe if there was more in terms of why it was attached to her rather than "it's a random thing". I dunno?
I stress again. The workprint is a different beast to the Theatrical release. The hype is for the theatical version NOT the workprint version. They are different. Its quite possible that the reason you didnt enjoy it as much is that the version you saw wasnt the version you saw.

As for the demon vs ghost argument I dont see how it matters personally. I would have thought one being plausable would make the other just as plausable seeing as they are kind of related as far as mythology/religious connotations go. then again its all subjective really. Horror films deal with monsters of every sort so I accept them all equally. Zombies/Vampires/Werewolves/ghosts/Aliens/Demons/Mutant Inbreds they're all good.

Devil grin

ta :D Will check it out.

So Martyr's is probably the most fucking disturbing movie i've seen in recent times...although i'll admit i was hoping that post-murder girl-on-girl action would happen. Those 2 french chicks can act for sure.

Definitely worth a watch.

Pitch Black is kinda Alien-esque

Event Horizon is cool sci-fi horror

The Fly is an excellent science gone wrong horror

The Thing is a contemporary/tradtional creature feature horror about an alien

Alien Raiders is a cool alien infestation (as in infesting living humans) horror flick

Altered Excellent wee back country evil aliens messing with the locals horror film

Its good. Not great. Not a lot of horror/scares, and the humour isnt as good as Juno. It sits in the comedic horror genre but isnt really great in either. Some very funny lines, some nice effects, but it needed to embrace the horror side more. 6.5/10

For a really good recent horror comedy Zombieland is a winner. actual LOL, and some nice kill scenes. Once again doesnt fully embrace the horror elements, but is awesomely funny. 8.5/10

I've always disliked the "We can't think of anything we can fit in the established universe, so errrm, alternate timeline episode!!!" way of making movies.

Watched Push this evening.

I liked it.

It seems as though a lot of critics bag it, but I thought it was quite interesting. It's a shame that it had been set up for a sequel which may not happen due to it only just managing to break even.

Hope they do though.

Anyone seen "Taken" with Liam Neeson? Ultimate revenge movie, and some of the tightest action choreography I've seen - better than Transporter and Ronin.

Also enjoyed "Duplicity" with Clive Owen, Julia Roberts and Paul Giamati even if the plot was a bit fast to follow.

Extract was hilarious. (From Mike Judge who made Office Space)

"I told you, my man Brad just crushes ass"

Harry Brown was way more brutal than I thought it would be. Wow.

Recommend both Extract and Harry Brown, definitely.

Yeah, I was impressed. The "dirty Muslims fucking up our Europe" subtext was pretty heavy-handed though.

No Country For Old Men - Slow, but good.

Also: (from the movies I've watched most recently, or watched again)

Planet Terror
District 9
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Wall-E
Inglourious Basterds
From Dusk Till Dawn
Blood Diamond

Next up on the list to watch:

There Will Be Blood (never heard of it before until today)

Also watched the following over the last few weeks, there were worse ways to spend an hour and a half

Law Abiding Citizen: actually pretty decent, bar the end
The Last House on the Left: some pretty brutal scenes, decent thriller
Gamer: Some good action sequences, then got stupid and dull. I fell asleep about 40 mins in then woke up for the boss fight at the end ... unfortunately.

Am hoping to watch Thirst and extract in the not to distant future!

Zombieland's a bit overrated on this forum.

Sure, Woody Harrelson's character rules, and, the chick is damn sexy (though she doesn't get her baps out so strike 1 there), but the protagonist is a nerdy nerdburger, and there's nothing worse than a post apocalyptic romantic plotline where the nerd gets the hot babe.

+1 for the Bill Murray cameo though.

Yeah I agree ... for me the story flatted out. About the time they get bill murrays house and his extremely obvious impending death then just carried on to the end .... at which point it just concluded.

Other than that a good watch.

One thing I noticed tho when Columbus kills bill murray, Harrelson says "you just killed one of the last 6 people alive".... but the movie only has 5, sequel?
