The Fantastic Mr Fox was great! Typical Wes Anderson things for sure, but pulled off so well! Bandit hats, 40% off!

I thought Law Abiding Citizen was pretty good. I hadn't read anything about it in advance so had no idea what it was about.

Also, I much prefer watching GB with a fake american accent than his actual one

I saw Whatever Works in the weekend. Very good film, a great combination of Woody Allen and Larry David. Also, the insight in the movie is pretty on the money too.

For service in the supplying of one-liners: Good Advice.

Early 90's movie with Charlie Sheen as the lead. Get messed up with mates and prepare to laugh your arse off for all the wrong reasons, even if it's a rom-com.

I recently watched the remake of The Wicker Man. The scene where Nicholas Cage runs around punching women while wearing a bear suit may be the highlight of his career.

Yeah, seen it, it's awesome. Like, you're watching it and you think it's awesome, then you watch the last 15 minutes and realise it's really awesome.

Mars Attacks is a decent Tim Burton film. Maybe not a classic, but still good watching.

Just got home from seeing Edge of Darkness. Overall a solid movie but the pace was a little slow for my liking. Some truly impressive frags in this movie; extremely vivid MDK's.

A fairly decent sci-fi romp is Knowing with Nicholas Cage. Watch it if you liked The Day the Earth Stood Still [2008] with Keanu Reeves.

I also liked Sweeny Todd, which I avoided before because it was a musical. Musical part didn't bother me as it turned out, and it was quite an enjoyable movie. Damn Johnny Depp, makes anything so watchable...

If you want something a little more exotic, watch Sauna (Finland, 2008). It's a very interesting and visually stunning film. Watch it if you love Japanese horror, or American remakes like the Ring.

Another two films which blew me away were State of Play with Russel Crowe, and Ben Affleck. Russel flexes some serious acting chops in that one, as does Ben. And last film I liked was The International with Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. It's a high pace espionage thriller, like James Bond but without all the bullshit and weight of being a Bond film. Also, watch the last one on BR - transfer is incredible (actually, they all are but last one stood out imo)

American war movie. I find it so surprising that you think it's full of shit - all American war movies are basically documentaries, including Three Kings. That shit fo' real, yo.

Ditto. Was mid teens when it was on TV and can remember it being pretty intense.

On a brighter note. The rumor regarding Scorsese and De Niro remaking Taxi Driver from earlier this week has been shot down by Scorsese himself. Yay.

I thought I would check out the IMDB entry for Hurt Locker, so I did and read this interesting piece of trivia:

"The crew members were American, Jordanian, Lebanese, English, Irish, German, Moroccan, Danish, Tunisian, South African, Icelandic, Iraqi, Libyan, Circassian, Palestinian, Armenian, Swedish, Australian, and New Zealish."

I hadn't seen the term before but it has an urban dictionary entry.

Frozen is awesome. Once it finally gets to NZ I recommend everyone to see it.

Another not yet in NZ film people should really see is Pontypool. It's touted as a zombie film which while technically correct really missrepresents the film. Recently bought the Blu-Ray from the UK, and its even better than I remember it.
Most of the zombie action is 2nd hand reports from people talking to the main character a radio DJ. Exceptionally well done film.

Much like Right at your Door it takes a well known genre and presents it in a totally different manner. Pontypool is the superior of the two films, but RAYD is an intelligent film that is well worth the time investment.

It was an 80's TV show/mini series. It was very good but the movie is better imho.

Finally watched Terminator Salvation. Brief thoughts.

The movie can be summed up in two words: Sam fucking Worthington. There was some other guy with a lisp in a couple of scenes I think.

Some parts were cool, some parts were lame, but overall.... average.

The other-movie references were so fucking clumsy it was like all of a sudden a big flashing subtitle was popping up saying "THIS BIT SHOULD REMIND YOU OF THAT SCENE IN T2" and "THIS BIT LOOKS LIKE ALIENS" and "DOESN'T THIS REMIND YOU OF WAR OF THE WORLDS" and "THIS BIT IS LIKE INDEPENDENCE DAY" and "ISN'T THIS JUST LIKE THAT BIT IN THE MATRIX". It was shite.

The ending was fucking laughable. Pathetic. Wikipedia says the original ending had John Connor die and then the remaining leaders of the resistance have his face secretly grafted onto Marcus Wright to keep up appearances. That would have been cool.

The CG Arnie-face on the T800 body was really really well done. It really looked like a young Schwarzenegger.

Overall, I give it 5 out of 10. I didn't hate it, but meh.
