In Dollhouse, Eliza Dushku plays a young woman named Echo, a member of a group of people known as "Actives" or "Dolls." The Dolls have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas, including memory, muscle memory, skills, and language, for different assignments.
They're then hired out for particular jobs, crimes, fantasies, and occasional good deeds. On missions, Actives are monitored internally (and remotely) by Handlers.
In between tasks, they are mind-wiped into a child-like state and live in a futuristic dormitory/laboratory, a hidden facility nicknamed "The Dollhouse". The story follows Echo, who begins, in her mind-wiped state, to become self-aware.

Dollhouse has been FOXed, they've had to reshoot the pilot and several episodes because the execs and their "focus groups" found it too confusing and hard to empathise with the lead character. So no word on when it'll be ready.

Gotta LOL at Whedon really, buying the whole "come back, we won't do a firefly on you, all those network execs that screwed you are gone!"

It didn't get Foxed at all actually, it was Whedon's decision to reshoot, he wasn't happy with it being a pilot. It was good in his head, but thought that it wasn't a good enough introduction to the series/characters/premise, so he's shooting a prequel, and using that as the pilot.

In other news, I spent a good part of today watching The Big Bang Theory.
Good little geeky sitcom by the creators of Dharma & Greg, Two and a Half Men, Cybill, Grace Under Fire.. so the guy knows his niche sitcom genre.

Things that put me off it:
1) Gene sucks. Really, just not any where near as cool as the UK Gene. Kietel just doesn't play it with the same presence as the UK Gene had.
2) Woman playing Annie. Annie started as an underdog fighting for her place as a woman police officer in a time when it was very much a boys club. She was seen as (by everyone but Sam) some bird who shouldn't really be there 'cos she's just getting in the blokes way (obviously this changed as the show progressed). In the US version, she's just another cop.
3) They don't appear to be trying to do a Starsky and Hutch thing with it (which seems so obvious they could almost have called it Starsky and Hutch: Life On Mars). It seems to be more about Sam being stuck out-of-time and being against everyone (which you'd expect a bit of...) - but the crux of the UK one was Sam and Gene playing off against each others strengths and weaknesses.

It's early days, and I typically give a show 3 episodes to prove it isn't going to suck completely, but from what I've seen it's not going to make it past those 3.

Regarding Dollhouse:

The premise seemed very, very familiar, and after racking my brain I know why.

Back in the late 90's (I think?) Top Cow started pushing a comic (originally called Sexbot! [which I'm certain of, but the wiki doesn't mention so maybe not...]) called Aphrodite IX. It's about an android that gets her mind wiped after being sent out on assassinations, so that she never knows what she's already responsible for. The drama in the comic stemmed from her starting to recall bits and pieces of what she'd done.

Sure there are no new ideas out there any more, but boy does this look like someone's been re-reading old failed comic books to come up with new tv show ideas...

I'm nearing the end of the second episode in season 1 of The Big Bang Theory and fuck sake. I'm almost at the point of removing my pants. I want to fuck that chick soooo SOOOO bad.

I've been pretty randy lately, I noticed it when I was on the bus today also.

This show is awesome, and not just because of her ;p
