Actually I was going to mention that but by the time I was typing I was playing the original and forgot how bad the cover was.

I'm sure they have musical talent and all but covering a distinctive classic outside of a live show? Risky.

(Weirdly enough I have the Infectious grooves cover come on just after I finished typing that proving that there are exceptions, Mike Muir can do immigrant for me anytime).

Artists are only as good as their works. Besides: I used to play Quake with a Metallica CD playing, not the Quake disc in the drive.

re: Girl With Dragon Tattoo

Wait, the trailer is the exactly the same story as the first movie, released a couple of years ago? Why produce a remake so soon?

I didnt particularly enjoy the first movie, and the book bored me.

Well apparently when they negotiating the film rights they didn't even know they were negotiating remake rights for quite a while, they didn't even know it had already been made into a film.

The set of films are enjoyable, no real interest in watching the remakes though.

AWARDSLINE: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo deal seemed to take forever. It was obviously complicated by the fact that Stieg Larsson had passed away. What was the biggest challenge for you in pulling the rights together on the series?
RUDIN: The big issue on it was that the book was still growing in popularity, so it was hard to figure out, honestly, what a fair deal was. We’d start to make it a deal, you’d turn around and the book has sold 5 million more copies and suddenly it’s worth more. It just took a long time.

AWARDSLINE: How long?
RUDIN: Almost a year and a half. When we started to negotiate we didn’t know there were Swedish movies. Nobody told us, I had no idea. Honestly, we started out buying movie rights and it turned out we were buying remake rights. We got way down the road before anybody said, “Oh, by the way, these were made.”

people got evicted from aotea square today. there was one thing in the story that i found interesting-

Quote:
One elderly occupier, Charles Turner, told APNZ he wasn't at the site when his tent was dismantled and taken away.

His heart medication was inside and he could get gravely ill if he did not take it by tomorrow morning, he said.

Council officials said they were trying to locate Mr Turner's belongings and would get the medication to him as soon as possible.
so basically,

you are at a protest that is on the verge of being busted up, you are given a trespass notice etc, when the time comes you decide to sod off and leave your super important heart meds in the tent you have been told will be taken down. guess he was mr no mates as well since nobody else thought to get them for him.

obviously, this is the cops fault, not yours.

Actually I might go get a chunk of pig and cook it. Then invite a bunch of foreigners around to eat it.

Maybe set up a playlist of crowded house and put gladiator on the tele.

Anyone here up for pig and beer and cunts and poofs?

prolly just use my 'BLASTING AROUND THE TRACK' playlist which contains tracks like:
Kenny Loggins - Highway to the DangerZone
Europe - The Final Countdown (this one is good to start with as you leave pitlane and do a warm up lap cause of the slow start)
and
Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff

Admittedly my google skills are fairly lame but I can't find a single study saying there is a strong link.

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/...e-a-sugar-rush

So I guess it either doesn't exist or is just not reproducible in a double blind test (i.e. it is probably caused by god when the heathen scientists aren't looking).
Randomly came across the study I had been thinking of:
Quote:
thirty-five 5- to 7-year-old boys reported by their mothers to be behaviorally "sugar sensitive,"
...
mothers were told their children had received a large dose of sugar, whereas in the control condition mothers were told their sons received a placebo; all children actually received the placebo
...
Mothers in the sugar expectancy condition rated their children as significantly more hyperactive. Behavioral observations revealed these mothers exercised more control by maintaining physical closeness, as well as showing trends to criticize, look at, and talk to their sons more than did control mothers

Stephen Fry says there's no such thing as a "sugar high", so that's good enough for me:
Quote:
Who gets overexcited by sugary drinks?
Parents. There isn’t a shred of scientific evidence that children become “hyperactive” when given sugary drinks, sweets or snacks.
In one test, a group of children were all given the same sugar-rich drink, but the parents of half the sample were told they’d been given a sugar-free drink. When questioned afterwards, the parents who thought their children hadn’t had any sugar (even though they had) reported far less hyperactive behaviour. In another study, some children were put on high-sugar diets and others sugar-free ones. No difference in behaviour was observed.
No one has ever come up with a decent theory to explain exactly how sugar might make youngsters hyperactive. If high blood-sugar levels were the cause, they’d be more likely to go ballistic after a bowl of rice.
In the 19th century, moralising Victorians attributed “degeneracy and idleness” in the Irish to the supposed soporific effect of the potato. .
