The fact that this exists.
What3words: The app that can save your life Global geolocation based off a combination of three easy words. For when Lat/Long is too long, post codes or street addresses aren't specific enough. I can definitely see it being useful in casual meet ups with friends, emergency calls, you name it. Even if it's only ever used for meeting places and not for search & rescue, I hope this goes viral.

W3W has been around for a fair while - still have it loaded on my phone, but never remember to use it because very few others that I know use it. <shrug>

I was thinking about W3W the other day when trying to explain the power of "powers" to the layman.
If all it takes is 3 words to plot every 3x3m location on earth, then with 4 words you could plot every 3x3m location across 170,000,000 earths! Yeah, the idea is super neat. But while we still have "pin drop", and while Google / Apple maps keep getting more accurate it may just be an idea that came too late. |

Wouldn't it just be 40 000 Earths, with the 4th word referring to which Earth the co-ordinates of the 3 words prior are referring to? (for a dictionary of 40k words, which Bob's article mentions)
One benefit to using words rather than plain digits is for error correction/checking, since a stray or switched bit/digit in numerical co-ordinates [dyslexic/tired people] could send rescuers to the wrong place - all co-ordinates are valid - while a stray bit/character in a word is likely to indicate that the word is garbled if its not in the dictionary (and the words in the dictionary are chosen to maximise their Hamming distance to avoid similar words).

Outside of aviation, why would it need to be 3 dimensional?
I quite like the Maidenhead system, but appreciate it's a bit complicated for every day use. |

Skyscrapers & office buildings etc? Wouldn't 100s of people have the same 3 words?

Polite young guy from next door (late 20s at a guess, bought the place a month ago) just came and introduced himself and dropped off a small food parcel from his work (including salad dressings/_oils_). Aside from his early morning renovations, which won't go on forever, they're much quieter neighbours than I had before.
Thanks, small town GC.

CBD oil. Oh my what a great thing this is. The power of sleep compells you!
Just 4 drops right before sleep is enough to send me into a deep dreamful sleep. I also have 1 tablespoon of He Shou Wu + Reishi as a tea. |

My trick for getting deep sleep is two-part. First I decide to go sleep. Then I close my eyes. Sometimes they happen in reverse order.

My Spotify Discover Weekly gave me Sleaford Mods either this week or last. I've been listening to them in the car, and practicing at home with the simple basslines. I just googled to find out how to pronounce Sleaford (Slay? Slee? It's Slee) and saw tickets went on sale today for a concert in Feb at the Powerstation. Choiiice. Got mine.

Woo, just saw a sweet shooting star (meteor.) Not bright enough to light up the sky, but it had the classic shooting star look. White and orange tail in a long arc.

Went and visited a guy I met at a dance party - we clicked, seemed like my type. I was right. He showed me his rather large.... studio. SO MANY SYNTHS. So much modular. Racks, patch cables, instruments everywhere. He let me take pics, but I can't share them. Let's just say, all his equipment cost more than my house.
Worst part? I could hear his hard drive while he loaded up Logic! He said his i7 with 20GB of RAM was getting old, but I told him to get an SSD and I'd sort it out for him NEXT time I come round to use his Moogs :P

Had an offer on our house a while ago. Due to timings, I decided to hand my notice into work basically the next day to give the 4 weeks required. I did say I might need to rescind it if the sale fell over. (Employer has been super understanding and flexible).
A week later, it did. Luckily the agent had already signed a back up offer, with the same unconditional dates (and for 5% more money). It was due to go unconditional last Friday. Today was due to be my last day at work. I had my leaving do on Wednesday. They wanted an extension, till 5pm Thursday (Yesterday). Tuesday night they wanted to talk to the agent about the builders report. Shitting bricks as was imagining walking into my leaving do the next day to tell them I wasn't leaving any more. Much negotiations. Went unconditional at 2pm yesterday. I leave work this afternoon. Gears oiled, but would not recommend. |
