Well, that would be better.
It doesn't have to be a new song though. I don't mind if it's some old ww1 song our soldiers sang or something . . . as long as it's secular.

My preferences for a national anthem:
1. Secular, unlike current 2. Not sound like a funeral lament, unlike current 3. Maori-language component, like current |

^agree on all counts. Current anthem = cringeworthy.

The Maori part should be first of course so the hicks can end on a good volume. It should be different words too, not just repeating the same verse in Maori. |

The silver fern is already an NZ symbol (on the coat of arms for example) so if we were to change I don't see the harm in using it synergistically. |

Alternatively, we could just stop having a flag altogether.

The Herald asked people for ideas for a new flag. They were all pretty shit, but this one really stands out for its goatse-ness.

So long as the Union flag comes off I don't care hugely. The relevance of the UK to us is pretty light.
I rather like Tino Rangatiratanga. I'm be into an adapted version of that. Maybe a green and blue one with the white koru through it. It would be way more appropriate than our cute little mutation of the colonialistic* Australian flag. * Not sure that's a word. Care factor = 0.

I agree with the highly esteemed poster above. GTFO Union Jack.
Not sure about the rangi turitikitaane though. Don't dislike it but I'm not sure it's everyone's identity.
