Just voted in the CA democratic primary. What an absolute cluster fuck.

No one knew what was going on and people were being handed the wrong or missing ballots. I left that polling place and went to another that was thankfully not staffed by numpties.

Super Tuesday results coming in today.

Biden's getting a surge of drop outs endorsing him, Sanders has certain demographics going wild, but will anyone remember to actually vote?

And will it all come down to the number of delegates, regardless of the popular vote.

I hope that one of them gets the most delegates and votes. Otherwise the Trump protest vote will happen again.

It seems the preserving the status quo is a higher priority to the DNC than winning the presidency.

They probably just believe they need to ride out the next 4 years and things will go back to normal.

Initial results have Biden ahead of Sanders. Sanders could beat Trump, but older democrat party voters are more comfortable with Biden, regardless of the fact that he can't win against Trump.

I'm worried it's an exact repeat of 2016, but it could totally be dreaming to think that anyone other than Biden would be on the D ticket.

See also: Clinton four years ago.

Also, for some reason American Samoa went with Bloomberg.

It’s a higher priority to old people.

I suppose that's pretty much it, isn't it?

So, uh... is there anything going around that might shift this balance of power?

As Prof Galloway pointed out in the latest episode of the Sam Harris podcast, yes the old are reaming the young but the upside is that dramatic wealth inequality almost always self-corrects. The downside is that historically the mechanism by which the correction happens is "war, famine, or revolution".

Galloway always brings his A game and this podcast is no exception. Listen:

https://samharris.org/podcasts/189-wealth-happiness/

If you want to skip straight to the bit of specific relevance, where Galloway makes the observation above, it starts at about 21:50.

Selecting Biden walks right into 2 narratives that Trump has
- The Dems have a rigged system, the swamp of bureaucracy etc

- Biden is dodgy, his son is dodgy. The dems were trying to impeach me to hide that etc etc.

Of course with Sanders, Trump doesn't need a narrative at the moment, because they can quickly pull out the Socialist narrative

I was hoping for Bloomberg to do well because I think he's the only candidate who could beat Trump. Now it's Bernie, who can't, or Biden, who can't.

After 2016 data being so far off I'm a bit like who knows what could happen?

Absolutely. Trump with all his faults, knows this. If Biden's on the ticket, Trump will gain even more confidence, and illustrate that the Dem's don't know what they're doing, and that he'll win against Sleepy Biden just like he won against Crooked Hillary four years ago because they stand for the same things.

And he will.

Looks like Joe's probably stitched up the Democratic nomination. An impossibly big hill for Bernie to try and climb now. Why is Tulsi still in the race though? Boredom? She hasn't got a hope at this point.

Sanders has basically stood down from the race, but didnt he want to stay in so he could debate Biden.
That was the story I heard before Covid took over the news cycle.

When I think about Trump's meltdown over being asked for some words of comfort for the American people by a reporter, and the idea he could get re-elected, my mind is faced with an enigma, like a puzzle with too many pieces.

He was spoon fed the worlds most soft ball question to give him an opportunity to show compassion and empathy, and Trump took it and perceived it as an attack.

He isn't able to show emotion, empathy, or the ability to connect to other humans on an emotional level. It's never happened.

His response was so foreign to almost everyone listening because regular people have a regular emotional response.

It's antisocial personality disorder, aka psychopathy. Clear as day.

And you might think "Well that's just typical Trump."
It isn't typical of a normal person.

Find me one time he's shown any empathy what so ever. He will always talk about people like they're things, and things like they're people - like they're interchangeable and there's no difference between them.

Numbers are beautiful, a wall is beautiful. The question is nasty.
His biggest issue with the San Fran cruise ship and a potential Covid outbreak? He wanted the numbers to stay where they were.

Psychopath.

He will get emotional, he will get angry and sad when he losses things, because he had those things, and now he does not. There's no attachment loss, it's ownership loss. Psychopath.

He's told people can't get Covid19 tests. His response? "“I’m not hearing that.”

Penn Jillette has some interesting things to say about his times on "The Apprentice" - he never saw Trump tell a joke, or laugh at something funny (vs laughing by being mean). He seems to lack empathetic qualities when relating to others.

Trump made 33 false claims about the coronavirus crisis in the first two weeks of March

Quote:
Trump made 50 false claims from March 2 through March 8, then 21 false claims from March 9 through March 15. Of those 71 false claims, 33 were related to the coronavirus. That is on top of some additional misleading claims from Trump about the coronavirus (we only count the false claims here), plus some false and misleading claims from members of his administration.

Trump is now averaging about 57 false claims per week since we started counting at CNN on July 8, 2019. From that date through March 15, he has made 2,062 false claims in all.
This isn't some state of temporary insanity. This is status quo for Trump.

Would have been interesting to see the outcome of the nomination had it been after Corona. But who knows, maybe it's rattled enough people for Biden to beat Trump. Maybe not.

Sitting presidents get more popular during times of crisis no matter how shit they are. What Trump is fucking up now won't get held against him, electorally, for a long time.

Bush's was higher after 9/11 too. It's pretty typical.

Trumps approval rating via Gallup for March is 49%, the highest it's been in a long time.

It's squarely partisan. Almost never under 80% approval for people that identify as Republican, never over 15% for people that identify as Democrat.

Disappointing, but not too surprising. At least Bernie reminds us of the other side of the US.

I feel bad for the CNN video editor who is tasked with making Biden sound coherent. Maybe they'll switch to deep fake technology while he's on lock down and the debates will all be via Zoom. cocaine Trump vs a synthesized Biden.

This poll might give more of an overall average maybe?

I thought, and think, that Biden's "my VP will be a woman" announcement was cringeworthy virtue signalling. Fine to have it as an internal policy, but to make it a press issue? Terrible. Whatever candidate - and it should be Warren - gets put forward, the public perception that she was chosen simply on the basis of her chromosomes is a massive handicap.

No one's taking Kanye's birthday party seriously?

People who voted Obama twice, but then voted Trump. Surely their vote will go to Kanye.

It will test whether LBJ did infact lock up the black vote for 200 years with the civil rights legislation. Biden's going to have to send out a lot of memos telling black people they aren't black anymore.

More absurd things have happened in politics.
