Saw a few movies I didn't realise were available, or even existed on the ipt top 10 lists, checking them now.

Reacher
Killing Them Softly
End of Watch

Any one got an opinion on any of those?

End of Watch will be one of the best movies you've seen in quite a while
Killing Them Softly is a fine watch, quirky.

Reacher(as in Jack Reacher?) pretty sure there's not a version that passes as an acceptable quality

Hope they do the original movie justice, although I didn't mind Conan The Destroyer (and Red Sonja) it was nowhere near as good as Conan The Barbarian.

Weeks behind, but the family went and saw this on Tuesday just gone. Saw it in 3D HFR, and although the HFR was very jarring at first after about 30 minutes I just no longer noticed it. Made the pilgrimage to the Embassy so the sound was spectacular. Overall we all enjoyed it a lot.

YMMV.

Watched Frankenweenie. This is the shit kids nightmares are made of. I can see why Tim Burton was fired from Disney for wasting company resources on making the original back in '84.

Shit, I think it's too dark for modern Disney.

Also watched This is 40. Another Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, Superbad, Sarah Marshall, Wanderlust) RomCom, so no huge laughs but entertaining enough to watch with the missus.

A lot of people don't like Paul Rudd but I don't mind em.

Reacher. *I* Liked it. It was witty, plausible - if not predictable. I won't say it's mindless action, but if you go there expecting it to be anything other than what it is, well, just don't.

It got very cheesy in places and some of the acting was pretty poor but hey, worth the $9 for sure.

Would prefer Joss.

Anyway.

Watched Skyfall tonight, lots of awesome, loved the car, loved Javier Bardem, hot chick was hot. But two things about the musical score:

1. Thomas Newman's personal style is so characteristic it stood out a mile. There were moments where I kept expecting WALL-E to trundle through the set, or Nemo to swim past underwater.

2. When Newman reined in his personal touches the Barry theme had me shouting "I'VE SLEPT WITH DOCTOR QUINN, I'VE BEEN TO OUTER SPACE" at inopportune moments.

Watched Django Unchained last night. So good. One of the better movies for me this year.

Casting was excellent. Christolph waltz

Tarantino playing an Australian with a bad aussie accent was laughable. At least he wasn't in it long.

Waltz started a little cold, but definately upped the game in the middle =] Good movie, just not tied together as clean as I'd hoped! But good... good... solid good...

Liked: Two little boys - didn't really have much interest in this, but really liked it. Initially it seems pretty cheesey, but ended up having this darkness to it. Hamish Blake was good, he starts out seeming typical Hamish of Hamish and Andy, then slowly turns into this psycho.

Disliked: the hobbit. sigh. Not wanting to tall poppy, but it's a short kids book, which goes thru the PJ blender and comes out as 3 drawn out unsubtle action movies. :\

Battleship was nowhere near as awful as people make it out to be.

Liked the Aesthetic of the alien ship and the aliens, the thing was a bit cheesy but who didn't expect that - don't go into it expecting lotr and it's fine

Read an interview with Joss a while back where he said he'd already done the Star Wars sequels that he wanted. He said he'd always thought the best character in Star Wars was Han Solo, so he went and did a bunch of stories about a lovable cowboy rogue spaceship captain flying around and having adventures in a spaceship that was simultaneously kickass and a piece of junk.
