Half a lifetime ago my dad worked as an inspector for Housing NZ. Refugee centre or not, plenty of people simply do not know how to live in this country.

EG a hole in the lounge floor for rubbish disposal. Cooking in the oven by burning wood in the warmer drawer.

I was more referring to things like using a washing machine, turning a light on, driving a car, boiling a jug, not to beat their child when it cries, etc.

Anyone who says they've lost faith in humanity, I take that to mean they've lost faith in themselves, because humanity is fucking amazing. We do some freaking awesome shit.

Edit: "The Entertainer" is not one of these awesome things.

The wood working is epic, all the different techniques they use to hold stuff together. In a way it looks kind of obvious, but actually developing those techniques probably took hundreds of years.

Interesting that lumberjack has lost it's usual place; that's an ultra high risk job and I think I'd always rate that worse than a job with no future that's also really boring and terribly paid.

How do they come up with those income numbers though? $90K US - that's what we'd pay someone the day they got professional accreditation; actually we'd probably be paying more than that.

I'm assuming market averages. I'm also assuming that your firm would pay above average market rate, hence why you're there.

I expect the average is of trainee as well as qualified staff in which case it makes sense.

Didn't know they were closing it, that will make things harder for the uninitiated for sure.
More of a dig around our expectations really, being sent to Hammy and all.. for them I'd guess it's much better than the possibility of exploding in your sleep.

The opening act for the Melbourne shows was, to quote my friend who went: "The world's shittiest DJ". So... yay at least we get a band.

Also: Jesus H Christ, they played Opiate that same night! (second show in a row in Melbourne, so... maybe night 2 in Auckland will get the same treat?)

I would legit lose my shit if Dr Dre showed up on stage at a Tool show, not even kidding.

I'm sure you're aware, but: it's been longer since 10,000 Days and ::now:: than any of the gaps between Tool's albums.
I don't like our chances of anything new - not even sure if a new Tool album is going to show up at all this year, what with the new Puscifer album out.
