Cryptopia always had a number-8 wire feel about it. That's why I only used it in as minimal fashion as possible. I'd go with incompetency.

So, what do we think? Extorted and killed? Or he somehow blew the money before it was worth so much and no one noticed, and for some reason he staged his suicide to look like an illness?

EY has a team of 200 developers working on new protocol Nightfall that will run on public Ethereum blockchain and be published to Github in May 2019.
Supplychain, food provenance, transaction tracking protocol using zk-snarks. Open source, public blockchain, and 200 developers means EY is putting serious investment into this. This is new ground for such a huge international accounting firm. New ground for Ethereum too. Super bullish. |

A slow recovery? I'm not in any hurry. Hope those of you who wanted in have been dollar cost averaging! Timing the market is hard, putting in lunch money is easy.

Congress Rep. Brad Sherman calls for the ban of all cryptocurrency https://youtu.be/Cnz2oo8MRas Here it is. Brad Sherman wants cryptocurrency banned because: - US and FED will no longer be able to keep the world pinned to the USD - US can no longer conduct financial terrorism against Venezuela, Iran, Syria, et al - US can no longer collect taxes effectively - US can no longer invade sovereign nations on inflated USD Sounds like a good reason to ban USD to me. |

Bit different from the last one. Ethereum led the last jump, then Bitcoin followed along with public hype. Right now it's Bitcoin leading, despite a stark lack of any improvements to the tech, at least that I know of.
All the while Ethereum's development continues at a steady pace.

My prediction is a quick peak then a mild, extended slump. Further frothiness for the year. The next BIG peak will be 2020, especially with interest around Ethereum going PoS. Where the slump that follows ends will be what's interesting.
But who knows what noise might get the market hyped up. A slow news day, some story about someone making money doing something remotely useful with crypto, climbing value. Most people are still naive to the pain of riding the wave.

I saw the video of BTC going to $10M in today's dollars. Based on global debt, fiat currencies going to zero, and BTC being the placeholder.
Given the latest peak and slight slump, I'm happy with my holdings, but if it drops much more than now, I'll just buy more, ready for the next move up. I don't see cryptos going away anytime soon. If you're trading crypto, it matters. If you're HODLing, the short term doesn't matter (unless it goes to zero). 2040 or whenever the limit is reached is when things REALLY matter, because that's when it's a "stable" system.

My money is on someone in the thick of it who spotted a vulnerability and exploited it. Sounds like business was out of control, plenty of important shit no one was on top of.
But it seems all parties had motive and opportunity to pull off the rip. Investigators must have their hands full.

Inland Revenue weighs in on crypto (page 3)
Summary: If you get paid in crypto, you still need to pay PAYE on your wages as though you were getting paid in NZD, at a rate determined by a valid exchange (one which operates in accordance with laws such as know your customer) - a NZ based exchange will do just fine. The parallel they draw is that crypto is like property, so FBT applies. Stable coins can be treated as money, pay your tax G. I expect that the usual trading vs investing definitions come into play around gains made in crypto and whether they are taxable. (Intent when purchasing, and frequency of buying/selling, etc)

+30% weekly move for Ethereum. V2.0 set to launch in 2020.
Here comes banking & finance as a protocol, layer 2 solutions in development since 2016 are going live: - Peer to peer lending (no banks: Dharma, Compound) - Decentralised exchange (Uniswap, bancor) And more in the pipeline: - Decentralized Insurance (no insurance companies: requires solving of the Oracle Problem) - Peer to peer stock trading (no brokers) - Tokenised asset ownership (crowd sourced major projects, group ownership of property) - prediction markets (share your opinion with skin in the game) - persistent assets in gaming / virtual worlds Bring it on. Fuck the banks, fuck the brokers and middlemen, fuck denying billions of people banking & finance services because it's too expensive to set up shop in their country / neighbourhood. Ethereum 2.0 developers released the specifications for the “official” testnet on Wednesday, ahead of a presumed end-of-year launch. The testnet will begin Aug. 4 and has been named “Medalla” after the Buenos Aires metro stop.

I think the demand for transparent supply chains are going to be an early driver of the tech:

Absolutely, provenance is just one of the killer apps for Ethereum. That and solving the oracle problem for prediction markets + insurance.
Also, Uniswap decentralised exchange does more volume than Poloniex and Binance. 1/3 volume of Coinbase! https://cryptoslate.com/uniswap-does...-tokens-surge/ Thanks for DeFi, transaction volume of Ethereum has surpassed Bitcoin: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ether...120021033.html Last edited by Nich : 4th August 2020 at 12:54. |

Vimba (used to be mybitcoinsaver) in NZ has shut down. Now you're going to have to buy your Bitcoin from Juju, or use one of those risky exchanges and provide mugshots etc.
I only noticed when my last delivery from my AP didn't come through, because I delete the emails from them out of habit.
