Classic All Blacks ready to run riot in Japan

http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/sports/20070328TDY22006.htm

Classic All Blacks squad: Dave Hewett, Joe McDonnell, Gordon Slater, Matt Sexton; Royce Willis, Simon Maling, Charles Riechelmann; Scott Robertson, Sam Harding, Ron Cribb; Justin Marshall, Mark Robinson; Carlos Spencer, Andrew Mehrtens, Tony Brown; Scott McLeod, Mark Ranby; Jonah Lomu, Eric Rush, Bruce Reihana, Jeff Wilson.

Holy sh*t, I wouldn't mind seeing these games, plenty of guys that are quality players in the mix, and a few with the years on their side as well.
I really hope we can get copies of these games, I'd say Japan will have their hands full.

Yeah, that would be superb to watch

Some of those players were arguably the world best in their position only 5 or 6 years ago. It will be interesting to see whether they still have form and fitness to take on a current international side, even one ranked as low as Japan. My guess is that this "classic ABs" side would be severely punished by any current Trinations or 6 Nations side - and Argentina - but might have a shot against the likes of Japan or Canada.

Mehrts with Carlos at 2nd 5 I would of thought, considering Mehrts is the Captain.

Royce Willis! wtf happened to him? He would still be only about 30, he came from nearly nowhere into Taine Randell's ABs in 1998 , replaced an old/complacent Ian Jones I think when they were getting pwnd by everyone and kicked some ass and stiffened the pack up quite a bit, big and mobile 120kg unit, he wasnt much good in the lineouts but very good otherwise, then he just sort of vanished after that....
Ron Cribb was a waste of talent too

Bruce Reihana was unlucky not to get in ABs more and he still plays in the pommy comp where he has won best player at least once IIRC

I reckon theyd beat wales, italy and maybe scotland or england. They are all match fit players.

Nah, I think you're dreaming. I know several of those guys are still playing in first-class leagues in Europe etc, but Jeff Wilson, Tony Brown and Jonah match-fit? They might be match-fit for local club sides and exhibition matches (effectively what this will be), but not for matches against top 8 international sides.

In fact, I believe almost every Super 14 team would thrash them.

Carlos would beat Japan by himself.

It was played overnight, they took japan down by a considerable margin (from memory, only caught it briefly on the morning news).

I think they said that they play Japan again this weekend.

I wouldn't call 35-26 a "considerable margin": http://www.stuff.co.nz/4054986a10295.html

Sounds like Japan acquitted themselves reasonably well.

I think the next game will be interesting. Teams like this (and Barbarians/Lions) can take a wee bit to gel together.

Huh? You don't need an account man, just click the link halfway down the page if you have a torrent DL client app.

Edit: Holy hell - getting it at 415kb/s - cheers for the link Simon

Hmmm... unless you mean it needs a password after downloading?

Yep, they got there quite a bit easier this time.

Is there a third game?
