National trying really hard to drag this out from the belt-way. Too bad they desensitized the public with 9 years of their dodgy shit! Apparently people should give a shit because it's not them doing it.

I've heard a couple of interviews where he's said along the lines of they're just scratching the surface and they're gonna keep going hard at question time to find the truth.

Btw I don't blame them, they're doing what an opposition should. It's just hard to take it them serious after their long list of scandals.

This Curran thing is a clusterfuck on a bunch of different levels, and she's so fucking incompetent I don't even think she realises how bad she's fucked up.

You may say it's beltway, but this has all the appearance of interference in Radio New Zealand by the Minister in charge. That's serious.

Is that going to be your default excuse every time Labour has a big fuckup or scandal? That National is also bad so it makes it okay for Labour to have scandals?

National demonstrated Labour need not bother with excuses. Just disregard, move on.

Of course, that may be just because National is particularly effective at whipping up furore, Labour let National get away with it.

Far from being a "storm in a coffee cup", it encompasses some huge issues, including the independence of the media, the ability of state entities to self-govern, and the executive to make decisions in a proper way. All of that is under challenge because of the way Clare Curran has created this shambles with RNZ.

Richard Griffin says he was told not to comment on Hirschfeld, Curran meeting

So it wasn't just the once that Curran or her office told Griffin what he should or shouldn't be saying - now it's twice. She needs to go.

I agree that maybe she needs to be moved to a back bench for a while. Earn her place again.

But in saying that, it really does sound like Griffin has it out for her.
A lot of it is starting to sound like he said/she said - except there is some evidence of the voice mail to Griffin, but he's not releasing it.
Why? Is it because there isn't anything discriminating (and maybe he has interpretted it wrong) or is he wanting to build this up even more for a greater impact when he is forced to release it.

Well at the very least she was stupid enough to make herself vulnerable. I thought this was a good summary:

I think she should lose the portfolio and never regain it. She's clearly incompetent.

Maybe, but there's been a pattern recently of Labour ministers and MPs trying to improperly influence people. The excuse is always "oh no! I wouldn't! I must have been misunderstood!" Funny how that keeps happening! Funnier still how Curran, a former PR person, can't clearly get a message across.

A big thanks to Taxcinda Adhern and her coalition partners The Commu- opps haha I mean the Green Party for further retardation of New Zealands financial development all under the guise of caring for climate change.
At least when our childrens children look out of the shanty town they will be living in they will be able to determine that the sky is blue.

This is an incremental but important step in reducing the long-term threats posed by climate change. We can't safely burn even 3/4 of known fossil fuel reserves, let alone new ones. The ban signals the need to transition away from fossil fuels as both energy sources and revenue sources.

And even if "financial development" is all you care about, existing permits are unaffected by this announcement. There are 22 permits for offshore oil and gas exploration that could still go ahead. It's hardly going to make any difference to jobs in the next decade.

What is he dumb about? His questioning your implied link between National's mental health care funding, and condom use between gay men?

Well now that the long national nightmare of the oppressive National regime is behind us, the new government can get to work on the important things like fixing mental health, restoring hospitals, rebuilding Christchu--

By suggesting it's gay men who have changed somehow? How absurd.

With Truvada now being publicly funded it will be interesting to see the rates of infection track over the coming 18-24 months.

AIDS was once a fatal disease. Now, if you're in a rich Western country with socialised medicine, it's an inconvenience with which you can live until you die of old age. I imagine that this might change behaviour among the people most likely to expose themselves to it, but hey what would I know. I guess a sensible thing would be to check STD infection rates in countries that are socially comparable to NZ but which have not endured the dystopian horror of a National-led government.

Maybe. Maybe there's an increase in drug and alcohol use, risky behaviour in general that this is a symptom of. Maybe it's Russian bots promoting bad behaviour to whip up anti-gay hysteria. Maybe it's a combination of factors.

But we're not psychologists here, so our imaginings about what influences human behaviour aren't really worth a damn.

It seems more sensible to me to fund actual experts sufficiently to both provide the day-to-day support that people need to understand and manage their sexual behaviours, as well as doing research to understand the ongoing nature of sex in our community. Get ahead of the problems, rather than waiting till they pop out and see who we can blame for them. We're not even doing the former.

You seem unconvinced there's any problem at all, other than dirty faggots being dirty faggots. But if there was, how would you know? If National genuinely wrote off the vulnerable of NZ, would you really know?

On the contrary, if most of the increase in syphilis infections had come from Whangamata hairdressers I would be just as interested in the cause.
