Some people just need a "dark other" to blame the world's ills on. That way when you see your non-darkness, you can be assured the world's problems aren't anything about you.

It was most definitely feminine. Something like this: My understanding is that the neckline for a business suit is acceptable as long as you can't see sideboobs or bra. The male equivalent would be something like this: Definitely masculine, because you can see the broad shoulders even with everything on. |

oh so the male equivalent of a suit would be a suit.
good to know. thanks OP.

In terms of the very narrow range of events that you're presumably referring to there are a couple of things to consider. First, nobody living in NZ or AU really appreciates what happened since by and large we were unaffected - any knowledge is biased by the lenses of commentators many of whom are not even trying to be balanced. Second, it wasn't really the banks to blame but the greed of those that found themselves on the receiving ends of the instruments used. In my view the greedy people include those who took loans having no capacity to repay them. |
|

That is definitely true of some individuals. But I doubt of many and certainly far from all. I mean, I don't think you can conclude a person greedy who gets a loan and is given a loan assured by this person's employment and the stable state of the economy. Economy tanks, people lose jobs, loans can't be repaid, economy tanks further... which ones are the greedy ones again?
While historical financial institutions and of course many current ones facilitate functions essential to our lives, all evidence points to an endemically corrupt finance industry. From your CSRs getting commissions on loans not looking closely at applications, to whatever that core financial system was where it was exposed that the individuals running it were fudging the numbers for their own companies' benefit. From fucking top to bottom the finance industry as it is right now is a complete grift.

I'm still pushing for punitive, punishing, extracting taxes on the entire industry, wipe the fucking scum clean. Here's just one fun fact among many, take the figures provided by the City of London about their contribution to the UK economy. Compare that figure over 10 years to the damage estimated by the IMF during the GFC and it comes out at 6:1, for every pound they made over 10 years they lost 6 during the GFC. You and everything you know is utterly worthless GT, if I had my way we would drive you through the streets whipped and beaten until not a single smug bastard like you is left. Finance is a toxic industry, if these motherfuckers were terrorists and threatened to do this to us we would order a drone strike. We should, if there was an ounce of justice in this world we’d storm the trading floors and shoot every last bastard in defence of what’s left of the real economy. I propose we start with you just because you're a cunt. |

I'm sure pretty much everyone here knows what GT does for a living.
Both sets of arguments have validty to them - the finance industry has both provided some great gains to societies at times, as well as doing obscene harm at other times. Pixie

Example: I have a mortgage on bit of an el cheapo house as far as Auckland prices go. I put a lot of additional payments into my mortgage to reduce the debt. My mate has just bought his 3rd home within 1 year. All he owns is debt. If the market takes a dive then he's fucked, if not then obviously he is rewarded. |

http://www.theyworkforyou.com/ People are quick to mock writing letters but between voting it's one of the best way to get things changed and there are few things quite as satisfying as having one read out in parliment. A politely written letter that backs each statement up by citing your source works wonders. Also in the UK the replies come on some of the nicest letterhead you've ever seen. The responses in the UK were overall better than those I've recieved in AU, for example the office of Julia Gillard teaches a masters course in passive agressive responses when you write concerning Julian Assange. |

What is the difference between a English actuary and a Sicilian actuary?
An English actuary can tell you how many people are going to die next year. A Sicilian actuary can give you their names and addresses.

Obviously this depends on your origins, but first "career" for us working class folk is just figuring out what it's like to actually be part of an industry or profession, get a feel for the whole working thing, build up some personal resources. Then after that and a bit of growing up you start to look out at the world and start considering what it is you really want to do. Or whatever... that's just how I see things.

I think of it more as discovery than study. I loves me some learnin's. But yeah, if you need a constant supply of loot and booty, taking a break from being a working man can be tough.
