Oi!

It was amazingly smooth, given it was a belly-landing!

Good call, there would have been some very relieved passengers on that flight.

Awesome work.

I love those little planes, you're virtually right up with the pilots.

Which of would been a lovely complication for the pilots (the cabin hearing most of that what was going on).

I dunno, in a way I'd be pretty surprised if the pilots told the passengers what was happening untill the last minute. Why cause a potential panic when the plane still flies okay? just wait till you're on the final approach then say:

"Ladies and gentlemen, there is no cause for alarm, the plane is flying a-ok, but uh, we're gonna land without wheels, so tuck your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye!"

The passengers definitely knew - check the vid chiQ linked to.

If anything this actually makes me more comfortable getting in a Beechcraft, or Saab or Bombardier or whatever.

I'm going to assume the upper most tips of the props rotate away from the fueselage?

kinda makes me feel better though.

When i was 8, i was flying in a small plane (no idea what it was.. i was 8) back from Auckland -> New Plymouth, and there was alot of lightning in the clouds were were flying through. i was pretty freaking scared.

In a beech 1900D there is no seperation from the pilots to passengers so the passengers would have heard the master alarm followed by the mayday call followed by the plane leaving wellington airspace.

Its also likly that the pilot did a missed approach at wellington or the other airport to burn up fuel since there was a possablity of the prop hitting the tank when they landed

They circled Blenheim for over 30 minutes to burn off fuel as well.

So, after checking that everyone is ok and sorting out the whole affair, did AirNZ then chuck them all on a plane to Wellington, or did they take the ferry instead...?

Mint landing, was talking to a mate who's training to be an engineer at AirNZ, apparently the plane was only a metre off the centre line when it stopped!

Funny thing is, the flight was Wellington bound - so the passengers would have to jump on the next plane to welly - doh!

Buy those two batsmen a beer (each). That rates as one of the most riveting performances from a new cap I've ever seen, and McC rocked too

They must of updated Ryders photo

at the time of the 20/20 the photo must of been a few years old, cause he was skinny
