HENCE WHY FOREVER ALONE
|
I have access to an UP Mini, but need the filament.
The common theme, regardless of which model, is that they all take fucking forever to produce a print.

Yeah - just tried rendering a shot glass, and it was going to take 2 hours. But the extruder looks to be clogged. I've got 4 rolls of flament, a mix of ABS and PLA, so I'm good for a while - although I see AliExpress does 12 colour sample packs quite cheaply. But the wood one is still $60/kg. Looks to be sawdust particles infused in a little PLA - so I may have to recant my mong face when asked if I could print wood.
Oh yeah - the extruder stepper motor needs to be wired in reverse to work...? Max - If I can make a bracket to fix the thingamie on the shower, then it will be worth it... |

Technology is so broad now, I can almost forgive someone who prints, highlights, scans and emails technical problems instead of taking screen shots and using paint. Although I think it's more about non-technical people being pushed into taking on technical responsibilities.
Still, I have to laugh when I see it.

I know 3D printing has been around for a while, and consumer-available home printing kits for some time too, but I still get a little suprised whenever I walk into warehouse stationery and see the fiber wheels and 3D printers for sale on the shelves.
It's pretty cool |

Found that randomly while googling Damascus Steel, (-> Damask -> Diapering)
Anyone know any good resources on the loss of Authentic Damascus Steel technique and people's quest to rediscover it.

Found that people that are long sighted or otherwise need glasses for reading can often quite easily read off the back-lit screen of tablets.
The more you know!

I'm long sighted too. Hadn't read a book in 3 years until I bought a Kindle Fire. Have read 8 books on the last three weeks. It's the far better contrast between the typeface and the background that makes it so much easier to read. Have you ever noticed how hard it is to read menu in a restaurant when you are in low light and the menu is printed on a pale brown parchment type paper?

Forgetting about the focal length stuff.. shit lighting in restaurants is a fucking pain. Mexico is the worst for that - they have a super detailed menu and super shithouse lighting. Sure you just use your cellphone flashlight to read it, but that's fucking stupid.
Still.. they do make delicious spicy chicken wings. |

I don't get super dark restaurants. Are they trying to disguise how shit their food looks? I mean, dim the lights for mood, sure. Don't make me feel like a spelunker.

There was some pitch black restaurant (that I think probably is based on a real thing) in CSI that posited that diminishing one sense heightens other senses (like taste and smell)
I doubt that's why they do it though, they're just apeing them that came before. e: I like this from answers.yahoo From a design standpoint, it is a psychological ploy for greater intimacy, and to make you feel calmer so you stay longer. Usually, fancy restaurants will use this technique versus, say, McDonald's, who use bright lighting and uncomfortable seats to move you out more quickly.

Yeah and that's all fine. Dime lighting, fine. But some cunts go too far. It goes from intimate to creepy.
