There's a certain amount of merit from both perspectives. On the one hand no, there is no real alternative to Sky but subscription TV is hardly compulsory. Surely you can understand why some people would be slightly puzzled when they see people complaining about a service they choose to pay for?

I cancelled my pay-TV subscription last year and swapped to an alternative digital media provider called "the Internet".

(Badly done) "Intuitive" website menus. Just group all the options under main link headings and expand all the available frickin' links when you click on the group. Don't try and second guess the 'relevant' ones people might want because you're wrong - just show the whole lot.
I'm looking at you, 'My Telecom'.

Can you stream them at 720x576 or higher with no or very minor buffering/general issues? (On the typical DSL connections of most New Zealanders.)

yes, but me streaming video at acceptable quality leads to massive bandwidth use, and lag for everyone else in the flat. so, how do you solve that one?

Package from 1day was "delivered" but no one in the house has seen said package (people left soon after the time it was supposedly delivered)
NZPost looking into it, no reimbursement, etc etc My new green/blue sheets seem to be spreading their colour onto me during the night - regardless of being washed before use My entire back area, hands, feet, and nails are covered in this colour Last edited by Nightcrawler : 13th June 2008 at 19:36. |

did you soak your pretty coloured sheets in salt water for a day before washing them?
Washing them normally won't make them colourfast. May be too late now but you could still try it. Same for new towels, makes them more absorbent.

Silly drunken NZG story of the night. Tim Willits was burned out after the release of Doom 3 (he was lead designer) and Quake 4 (he was executive producer), and so what did he do? He turned up on the doorstep with a bag one day to chill with Ab, Princess, and MHG. OK, that bit about a bag wasn't true, because Qantas lost it. We decided to head out to a restaurant to drink ourselves silly (hey, I said he was burned out) and he of course did not have anything other than the jeans and t-shirt he'd flown in. The jeans he could get away with after a wash, but the t-shirt...? Nup. And he couldn't borrow a shirt of mine, it would have looked like he was hiding in a tent. But by a twist of fate I happened to have one of Incubus's shirts in my wardrobe (don't ask), and it fit. So Princess volunteered to be designated driver for The Boys, and we headed off - The Boys being me, MHG, and the co-owner of id Software and designer of all our favourite Quake levels, he wearing a cheesy blue shirt embroidered with Inc's initials.
It was pretty goddamn surreal. For extra surreal factor: while his bag turned up a day or so later, Tim got some sort of "oh shit sorry" pack from Qantas with some clean undies and a singlet and a toothbrush and god knows what. To this day I occasionally see Princess walk through the house on a weekend and I have to say "hey, are those Tim Willits's boxer shorts you're wearing...?" |
