I was so jealous of my friends, who had coke, and cordial, and biscuits, and cakes, and sweets, and chippies...and...stuff. I got water, fruit, crackers & cheese, and sandwiches.

When I was a kid I asked my mother if she refused to have yummy junk in the house because she didn't want me to get hyper, and she told me that sugar didn't affect my behaviour at all. She just didn't want me eating and drinking crap.

i just spent the last 30 minutes recording an indian logged into a virtual xp pc

pretty shit content really: tells me to start event viewer to show me some errors
then gets me to use a remote desktop app (they wanted an extra option turned on ... remember these settings or somesuch, which i didn't, and also turned off file sending and something else) where he runs prefetch and inf and tells me that the files are hacking files and keylogging files

then tells me about my free avg and how it's not paid for.
wants me to buy something off him, where i explain and argue that there's nothing wrong with my pc ...

they hang up.

Look, if we didn't hire women for hr this office would be 100% dudes and Jessica at the front desk and this place would turn into a frat house in literally hours and then someone would say something inappropriate to Jess and she would quit and we'd have to hire some guy to be the receptionist and then we'd be that weird office with the male receptionist and that's gonna impact our recruiting because seriously, would you work in an office where there was some guy at the door to greet you? I know I wouldnt. I compile the data into reports so yes, I need to check the logs.

I'm also implementing other systems and I use the logs to check what might break should they get switched on.

it is his job to report it. I had a similar situation where I found a video one of the web staff had stored on the web server of sexual acts. It is actually your job as an Admin to report it.

Yep. I've had to do those kinda checks before. Sucks but either you ignore it and risk getting in shit yourself, or report it and he gets in the shit. And it's his damn fault for viewing that crap at work. For fuck's sake people, do you sit in your cubicle/office and rub one out under your desk? Why are you putting me in this situation?

As usual there's always more to every situation. I guess it's a little more relaxed from the IT pov in the construction industry. If we fired employees for porn there wouldn't be many construction workers left :P

As long as they're not outside client facing, don't store it on our servers, don't bust a nut in the office and is in their downtime then meh.

he was checking the logs in enough detail to spot it, so it was an assumption on my part that his job entailed checking the logs.

I was also assuming he worked in an average workplace (not construction etc) where getting caught watching hard core pron at your desk is at the least a written warning.
