TF Intro history
In the begining about early 1998, I was a Farmer Brown Throwing rocks at the Cows that were taking off in the other direction, So a friend of mine had brought a PC and then 1 or 2 weeks later I brought my first computer which was a Pentium 2, 333 with mx or mmx intel graphics. Until this time I had enjoyed my 7 day, 10 hour days, but till I switched from throwing rocks to shooting Rockets and throwing Grenades, I left and was hungry to learn more about this game Quake and its Mods, Quake Deathmatch and CTF where the first servers that Col and I had joined, till someone told my Col about TeamFortress and where to inquire bout the downloads that we needed.
G21 was my first Clan, as I was new to the game and learning tricks ands skills to be a team player, I ran alot on the public servers and got some invites to Blue vs Reds which was cool but always one sided (all good but). I met alot of players and eventurally got a Trial for TNA and took on Shoyu for a 1 on 1, anyhow I made it in the team and my status grew from that point on. TNA2 took off after, but wasnt to soon it faded back to TNA. There were some mean battles and orginized Team work that kept us strong, Ausses will remember that. Com was the last Battle and starting of as a Scout with Shoyu I managed to Invintrate to there Basement and escape before the Sentrys were up and running and landed the first capp and on the way back relayed back for another. That was my Highlight of my entire carreer in this whole Internet Gaming buzz. After TNA i went solo and went into a few short lived clans, but wasnt as serious as prior compotitions. Because of my age and I met Porkfest and Festus I was Invited to Ohakune TMC Lan 2002 or was it 2000. Anyway a big shout out to the good folk that had attended (22 peoples). I then joined Blam and his crew (TMC-OS). A nother player invited me to Slut for his team called DA and I went under the Alias as Xerox and Soldiered the Ramps in 2fort5r, I ended up getting the Terminator Award after a hard week duelling Carn from Australia for hours on end till I started getting mine back, after some sessions my back was out with pinched nerves in my upper back from the efforts gained from dueling the King in my point of view. During all the years battling and Unemployed I needed to use my skills learnt from the computer and update them by going back to school and getting a bit of paper to say i can. I was quite amazed to how much a gammer really needs to know in order to play and out witt his opponant. Saying all this, my time today is getting people hooked up on BroadBand and fixing, installing Hardware and Software. My main profession is Designing for Coorporates and personal Graphic Designs. Every other day I look at a PC or hear First Person Shooters advertised, I stop to think to where it all began and say I was there in the hype of 1998 - 2002. Quake TF was the For-Front and foundations I think that started it all off, till Counter-Strike hit the Market using the Quake 2 Engine. All in all Cheers TF Community - if this wasnt here TF would of drifted away. Sorry for not mentioning names, you all know who you are Take Care, (TMC-OS) Griff |

I remmeber one stage where my room mate got up for work at like 5 and i pretended that i had been woken up and went out and had a coffee with him and a "smoke" then as soon as he drove out the drive i was aback into it

Hmmmm
I can't exactly remember when I started playing TF. All I remember was playing Quake and then finally getting the net at some point and started playing quake online, then someone mentioned TF so I checked it out and downloaded all the crap to go with it, got hooked pretty quick. Played under a few names, finally settled on Ice Man and eventually started short lived Clan ICE. Joined numerous clans throughout my TF time I think, one I can remember was SC. Page is still up at http://shell.world-net.co.nz/~newmdj/ password for the members area is still 'command' heh. Oh the joys of being an arrogant teenager who thought his parents were cruel and unfair back then. Makes me LOL as welll when I look back at Hurricane getting his restricted. I wasn't even driving then. A few years later I had a class 5 truck and trailer. Must have been before SC I changed my name to Drain, don't ask me why or where I got it from I have no idea. I remember going to a LAN in wellington and Mish's house. Also meeting Azmodan at some point. Both good blokes. The days went by, school got busier, TF took a back seat roll, started drinking, going out and working, eventually lost interest altogether, esp when the script kiddies started coming in, auto aim etc. When I was 18 went to america and drove combine harvesters in a circle for 16 hours a day, got bored, moved to california. Came home 6 months later. Went to England 6 months later, then home 6 months later, then back to England 6 months later, then Canada 6 months later, 6 months later I'm back in England for my third season. Loving it here. Don't really play games anymore. Although I bought ArmA the sequal to OFP as it was only 20 pounds, wasn't sure if it would run on my laptop but seems to run ok. My lifestyle doesnt allow for games anymore. I still sit down every now and then and play. But I won't ever get back into TF. Probably look at starting Uni in a couple of years. |

Hey geeks..
I started when in 1998/9 when i was about 7 (quake) My first clan was FF, i never knew what it meant, so when people asked i said "fighting fix" or some shit, but it actualy was free fags.. who was the leader? headbanger? i cant recall.. but flick was in it aka wake. Then I was jealous that i wasnt in a pro clan so i changed my name to b2k-fire and thought i was a badass... Then i was invited into EF and was there for basically the rest of my gaming liffffee gee. I went to afew lans too, with my sister and cousin.. they played too :s... I met quite alot of guys and they were all buzzed at how young i was.. i remember ICQ and all of those funny chat room shits. Wheres Colin Cool these days? Wraith? Head Bangar? Virus? Psyco? Psycokiller? Scorpion? or whatever, all those fellas in clan GoD... EF B2k DA Tool? |

No grens, respawn delay ala CS after death, one CTF map out of 6. Despite all that and my initial reactions, is damn good. More tac, can't just off yourself to get back into position or spam your way into/out of a situation. |

bugger.
that was the fun of TF. tactical without being so tactical that it slowed down the game and enjoyment factor... (why would i want to spend a minute out of action?) It was just spawn death spawn death spawn death, total action packed. can't beat qwtf. |
12th October 2007, 18:56 | #315 |
|
One ctf map are the others all canalzone style capture and hold maps? hopefully the map making community gets cranking (surreal?) and churns out some decent ctf maps, and maybe some of the more esoteric variations like the escort the president or rob the nest maps

I made a mistake with the price, $29.95 US not $20.
There's attack/defend and territorial/point control (linear push forward, not sporadic like CZ). At first I felt the spawn delay totally broke CTF, but after seeing it played through proper I started to appreciate the different style. It's hard to explain, it's not QWTF at the latter stages but does take the original TF and amplify everything. It's not a slow game even though it should be on paper, and it's a hell of a lot of fun. From someone that didn't enjoy or like TFC, I dig what they've done with TF2 even though I would have resisted the changes prior to playing. I even enjoy the non CTF maps. No it's not QWTF, but I think they've done the right thing with TF2. Even if spawn delay does irritate me still, its usage has a point which benefits the game overall. I haven't enjoyed anything long enough to play online much over the last 6 or 7 years, TF2 has changed that without having to force myself to like it. It won't be everyones thng, but I'm enjoying it. |
