I haven't seen Avatar so I couldn't possibly comment on how its production location affected it.

But I'll give you an example of what I mean, and that is Lionel from the Shortland Street muffin shop and Guy Warner appearing in Lord of the Rings. I mean - could YOU take them seriously?

It's been through two show-runners in the first 14 episodes (season 1), and a new guy for season 2, so it might jsut be that it needs to settle down some.

It feels a lot like they're trying to make it more than the sum of its parts so far (for example, someone gets shot around episode 10?. It's emotional I guess because they might die. Seriously couldn't give a shit though, just no character-connection for me. It's meant to be character driven, but none of the characters really grabbed me.).

I think the idea has potential, and I don't think they've used that potential yet.

You nailed it, absolutely nothing about the characters to make you keep watching. I think they overreached with the number of storylines, as well as forgetting to make the characters interesting as well as "gritty"

Really good. Feels like they are taking the show in a great direction.

Not that impressed with The Pacific at this point, sure, the war scenes are beautifully done but the story isn't that captivating - I think they'd have done better doing a series on the English/Anzac soldiers instead of the American perspective.

Also, Breaking Bad doesn't make any sense anymore - what the hell was up with those devil like brothers? It's almost like Lost, adding bullshit in to give itself a premise.

I think it's very different to BoB but the war in the Pacific was very very different to the European theatre. The boredom and the isolation from the rest of the civilized world being the most obvious factors.
I think they're doing a great job so far of portraying the war from the "citizen soldier's" perspective. It might not be as entertaining and clear cut as BoB but it's an amazing insight and is thrilling to watch.
