Yeah, s'all G. The last jobs I've applied for have had fairly basic cover letters written for them. This one I want to make sure I tailor it a little bit more and do a good job of it because I've worked for them before and believe I'm well suited to the job. If the person conducting the interviews is who I think it is, then I'm reasonably confident that if I can get past the HR hurdle and get my application into his hands then I stand a good chance. I'll still send the application to HR, but I'm also wondering how I can go around them and go straight to this guy. I've a fairly good report with him, but I don't want to be all clumsy and call him up and say "Eh, you advertising? Put me on the short list, bro!" Need to be more subtle than that

Pretty much that I reckon, if you have a good rapport. Call him up, let him know you're sending an application and ask him to take a look at it. No harm in that.

True that. I was talking to my flatmate, he said pretty much the same thing.

Oh! Also really important: If you customise anything, make sure as fuck it's customised for the right company and role. 'Cos really, I'm not going to spend much time reading over your cover letter and CV if it starts with being obviously intended for the Competition.
Also (and this is a pet peeve now it happens so much), if you apply for a job, and that job is in Wellington, and you live in Auckland, and you don't mention anywhere that you are mobile enough for this not to be an issue - DONT FREAKING WELL APPLY. YOU LIVE IN ANOTHER CITY. GODDAM. Seriously, like 1 in 5 applications via Trademe are Asian students in another city. LRN2MAP

We are talking about the same thing right? Heres a pic of a W50 shifter (ironically these look nothing like the W55+ ones, so i guess they are different.) They are the two bolts either side of the shifting shaft. The ones in the W55+ are one piece. I'll take one, I want 6. But will definitely take anything I can get. What's your email? |

So I'm reasonably convinced that it's simply someone that doesn't know New Zealand at all. It's also (and I swear to God I'm not being racist because it really is genuinely always) someone with a name like Kwan Chi Gau (Garry). Always. So, you know, I'm pretty much assuming it's Asian Students at Uni in Auckland.

If you're invoicing a company, don't bother trying to assert your own payment schedule, they'll resist it at every opportunity. Just stick with 20th of the month, and send out invoices on the last day of the previous month, and you'll be fine.
