So what's the bet the law changes in light of this whole GCSB business will make at least some of what was illegal now legal?

Five ignored posts in a row - something must have happened; I bet it's not exciting enough to see what they're on about though so I'll leave it.

If you toe The Norman-Shearer line, then yes. If you think about drug suppliers having other markets to supply to, then no.

Nope - becuase you still have the option of purchasing drugs without a pharmac subsidy, it just costs you more. Under this scheme, you can only buy your power from NZP, and if you have power to sell, you can only sell it to NZP.

Interesting . . . Labour-Greens plan could work, says Vector CEO

Quote:
The electricity policy announced by the Labour and Green parties could be made to work and the current debate is overly emotive, says the chief executive of the regulated monopoly electricity and gas network owner, Vector.

I guess it's an effective if unexpected mechanism to reduce the exchange rate; this should happen immediately they get elected. Beyond irritating me this won't have much effect on my family - I bet it will royally fuck the now well entrenched lifestyles of families earning under $100k though.

So much for encouraging New Zealanders to invest in the New Zealand share market rather than in property. I've just lost 5% overnight because of these fuckwits. Think I'll sell up all my shares and buy a renter in Glenfield (again).

Nope, but a good chunk in Trustpower and Infratil. I guess 5% was exaggerating a tad. But still enough to hurt. It's the concept that scares me and a hell of a lot of other investors out there. What's next?

MRP investors may get money back

Investors who have already paid for Mighty River Power shares may be given the opportunity to claim their money back following the opposition's radical policy proposing to overhaul the electricity industry.

Homosexual rejected for priesthood speaks of humiliation

Personally I'm generally against organised religions being exempt to parts of the HRA. But this probably wouldn't really bother me if they weren't getting significant tax exemptions and also trying to impose their beliefs on me.

If there is a win here, would this force for example Catholics to accept women as priests?

Ah true. I guess Catholics will be fine, their priests have to be celibate to be ordained I think, where as Anglicans require you to be "chaste", which it is seems secular law may get to define.

Turks deprived of TV turn to Twitter for protest news

"Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has taken dim view of this development. ''There is now a menace which is called Twitter," he said. "The best examples of lies can be found there. To me, social media is the worst menace to society.''"

I think it's more of a case of social media being a threat to the power base of the dominant culture. Western societies have been generally fine in the face of social media as for a long time we've learnt to some degree to listen to minority voices. Anywhere with a history of marginalising the views of minority groups are now finding themselves battling much more coherent opposition to dominant values.

Which is all good as far as I see it.
