Your phone's alarm doesn't function when it's turned off? Cripes, mine does. It's a basic $89 phone. Lol and your mobile telephone!

Actually, I've never tried. It's never really been an issue, I almost never turn my phone off at all.

My new work phone, (Palm Treo Pro) you can't turn off to begin with.

I actually use an old cellphone as a backup alarm clock, it rings like 30mins after regular alarm clock just to make sure I get up. And the alarm works fine when it's off.

imagine you wake up on a dusty floor. you are in a concrete room, there is a single lightbulb suspended from the roof and a solid metal door, clearly locked.

groggily you stand upright and look behind yourself, a single desk with a laptop and a single ethernet connection attached.

in front of the laptop is a note

Quote:
TO SECURE YOUR FREEDOM, YOU MUST CONNECT AND NAVIGATE THE SECURITY SYSTEM TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. THE ONLY WAY TO CONNECT IS TELNET
you power on the laptop, watching it POST, bringing a sigh of relief. Your victory is shortlived, as much to your horror the following appears on the display

It's still got DEBUG right? So you could drop down to a command prompt and hand code your own Telnet implementation in hex...

/edit and at 76K, the winXp one is bloated!

It’s unknown what the Maori Party got in return for selling out on their principles, as laid out in their minority report on the ETS special select committee. Speculation is it’s a deal on the foreshore and seabed.

The irony is, with people like the Maori Party betraying their principles and voting to do nothing about climate change, we can look forward to the seabed claiming more of Aotearoa and our low-lying neighbours in the decades to come. Well done.

Don't need telnet to launch games.

Don't need Windows 7 to do anything else.

Lots of high horse stuff about the Undie 500 "debacle." I've been involved in the Undie 500 and I've seen alot worse overseas (specifically Pamplona opening day this year) without so much whinging and complaining. Couches are burned and copious amounts of alcohol are drunk every weekend in Dunedin. Having 500 Canterbury students dressed up and driving in shitty cars doesn't change what happens down there. Having police turn up in riot gear and pepper spray everyone does.

QWERTY?

yep, probably would be better if we had a change in thinking by the police, perhaps just have cops there to make sure people arent doing anything overly illegal, shit is going to happen, you may as well just be there to prevent fights, advise people to not burn shit, that would sure lessen the change of a riot, initially the cops will probably still get bottled/abused but over a few years, it idea would go from "enforcement" to "serve & protect", this would have to be a full NZ type change of practise/thinking.

whether or not that is attainable, who knows.

less aggression would hopefully lead to less aggression.

I still think giving the cops battons and letting them go nuts while being filmed would be the best reality TV series ever.

Cops vs. drunken bumbs.

Oh man, and the cops could have names like 'career-wrecker', the students could get booze points which can be traded for crates of beer or used to release captured colleages, booze points are awarded everytime they evade capture, or achieve objectives like errrr... breaking stuff. Would be even cooler if the students formed teams and fought other teams.

Would have to have some kind of required alcohol/blood level required before you commence and if it drops below a certain point, BOOM you're eliminated (via tasers).

Sell it to the TV stations and use the money to fund more police training, see a noble cause!

I get entertained.
The students keep being allowed to break shit.
And profit! Woo.

I know this is a bit hard to grasp, but how about just not do anything illegal in the first place. Is it that hard for supposedly educated young adults to stop themselves from blocking off entire streets, acting like animals, light uncontrolled fires in the middle of them and then attack and throw bottles at the Police and Fire Brigade when they turn up. The rest of the country can do it, why can't you? Its lord of the flies like behaviour, bunch of young white kids from largely sheltered backgrounds get given a bit of freedom without Mum and Dad for the first time, get together enmass with similar types and look what happens.

The argument that if the Police didn't intervene and just looked on we wouldn't have needed to have pelted them with bottles is not a strong one, you can guarantee the students would escalate it to ensure they did, thats the point of it for most of them. It's kinda like boyracers wanting the Police to block off streets, lay down diesel for them each weekend and judge their burnouts only they aren't quite that arrogant enough to suggest it.
