The questions around whether Banks should be stood down (ie, did he deliberately mislead election officials? did he actually breech political finance laws?, does it matter if technically he didn't & can Key act based on his conduct before he became an MP?? etc etc) is an argument for us politics geeks.

Imo the average joe voter sees two dodgy MPs ( Banks & Jones) and only one leader taking "action".

Whereas some average joe voters will see that Jones has been stood down and will say "he must be guilty then!" and will see John Key saying "Banks has given me assurances" and will think it must be alright.

Darren Hughes never came back. Banks has until next election to try to convince the voters of Epsom that he's not a slimy cunt.

Objection!

Mallard has been talking about making moves to avoid service and/or making himself difficult to serve. That's wrong. On the other hand, process servers are supposed to be straight up about what they are doing -- using deception to serve isn't right either.

If they have exhausted reasonable attempts/methods at serving Mallard, then they should apply for substituted service via a court application. Neither side strikes me as blameless here.

I just don't understand how Mallard and Little thought this could possibly work out well for them. They just look like chickenshits.

Good work if you can get it. Or... perhaps the rest of it is made up for by various benefits? Waaaah, I pull in the bulk of my income from the benefit but I want more!

How about... don't be a solo parent?

Not actually the point for that; Was more a reflection of relative incomes, and is correct, but to lay the blame entirely at the feet of the Nats is disengenious at best as a lot of the fallout from that hit following on from Labour's policies, and most of it is because NZ is small-fry on the international economy and how much borrowing the average kiwi has on-behalf-of, by the government and directly.

Pretty typical Chubby post though.

But it's as much an attack on the wealthy. If it weren't, they wouldn't have all this shit about "backing rich families! RAH RICH PEOPLE!" They could make the same point without the NATIONAL ARE BACKING RICH PEOPLE, AND WHO DO WE HATE? RICH PEOPLE! narrative. But hey, what's a political party without horseshit dogma?

So these people are better off because they get a reduction in paying tax from money they have earned versus money they are given.

Can we please have a graphic showing how much tax each bracket is paying AND how much in benefits they are getting?

How 'bout... be a gold digger and get a husband that can support you and the kid? Hells yeah. Stay together for the kids? Hells yeah. Or how about... don't have kids if you've been married for 2 minutes and don't really have a stable relationship? Hells motherfucking yeah.

i love that all the chuckleheads see is "raaagh bennies"- and not the two thirds of the population (probably including them in some way) that are losing ground to service the greed of the wealthy.

Good to hear Shearer say Labour will reverse Nationals backwards education reform around decreasing teacher numbers.

You're evidently a sucker for the union propaganda that increased class size = inevitable bad outcomes?

Shearer (like his predecessors) has realised he can say whateverthefuck he wants, because he knows he's not going to be in government any time soon.

As would most, mind you it doesn't apply to most cabinet ministers as they know better than to send their children to a public school.

I know that (& as Ab points out) depending on how well other factors are implemented (remember we're talking about a Govt. that thinks less specialists/post-grad study is a good idea) then it wont necessarily mean worse outcomes.

But, imo the whole scarcity based it's either or argument is only relevant because of Nationals financial management (including Billion dollar tax cuts, no CGT, no superannuation reform etc).

I don't want smaller classes AND I want better teachers.

I haven't heard any (left or right) political commentators discounting a left coalition next election.
