any of you guys know of some good free music / audio software that'll help newcomers? Things like midi sequencers, multi tracking, and such?
I'm having a hunt around but nothing is quite as user friendly as I would like (namely Jazz++ midi, Sony's Acid Express). Acid Express is good... but it's severely limited in all the wrong places |

I'm not sure its what you are looking for, but Fruity Loops was recently put up for free download (not sure if it still is free)
From memory that was like a digital studio type thing (official non musically inclined term there) |
