ios6 wifi issues
http://www.idownloadblog.com/2012/09...-issues-ios-6/ currently a client's firewall policy prevents wifi devices from accessing internet, so as a result no ios6 devices can connect to wifi (because it fails the new 'wifi connectivity test') pretty fucken retarded

The grief now is handling an iOS device which attempts to hit the page, and gets a different response. I would wildly guess that it seems like the iOS device does different things depending on whether the response is a 302 (redirect to login page) or immediately presents the login page. I guess if it's a 302, it seems that Safari is launched and you go and put in your creds? If the ping request immediately gets the login page, I don't think it can handle it. I'm probably completely wrong, but that would kind of makes sense why it's "broken". Seems strange that if DNS issues with Apple.com or connectivity issues to Akamai (hosting apple.com) means you can't use your device via WiFi.. but meh.. |

Trigger: if the devices go through a web proxy, can you add a rule to serve a local copy of http://www.apple.com/library/test/success.html upon request?

I've worked around it, but it is just absolutely retarded that you cannot use wifi unless you can access a 'success' webpage as a result...
there are plenty of 'internal only' wifi connections, which will now mean you have to do various workarounds to fix shit that was never broken

Oh totally.
In fairness, I see what they were trying to do with their captive portal detection - and in a lot of cases it'll help rather than hinder. I just think it's a broken design and it's a bit inexcusable to not have any native override functionality. |

Or if you haven't heard of the concept of "backporting" a bug fix.

aside from maps, ios6 owns bones across the board, phone is faster for sure (ip4) and new white dialer is great.

"'we fixed it in the latest version' is only really a valid solution to the problem if you haven't heard of the concept of "backporting" a bug fix.
Well, I feel enlightened. Thanks DrTiTus. |

Choose your own adventure, Smartphone edition.
Some people are stuck with Gingerbread because their phones' hardware simply can't run ICS or JB fast enough, not just because carrier/manufacturers are lazy.
Android: 1. OS for the poor, or 2. OS for the mass. You choose. If you choose 1, turn to page 1 of this thread. If you choose 2, THE END. |

I run Froyo you insensitive clod.
FWIW: I tested the vulnerability using *06# (displays IMEI), and it worked. Tried running the 2 Degrees balance code, and it prompts. Installed exDialer which gives an option to prompt before running USSD codes, however the IMEI code still runs automatically. Not sure if they whitelist particular codes to auto run. By installing exDialer, I had two dialers, so by not choosing either as the default, I get prompted regardless of whether it's the IMEI or a potentially unsafe code. Thanks for the timely bugfix Google!
