Getting their way and pushing the left cause is more important than anything else. What people need to understand is that if MMP is around in the next elections, Labour is likely to be the favourites to regain power. In a world where the left frankly has near-zero mandate and credibility with the voters, this wonderful system will deliver for the left a number of seats that is rather large. Imagine what will happen next time with some inevitable second term wobbles for National? Last edited by cyc : 26th November 2011 at 22:36. |

It looks like National + old partners can form a government, maybe even without Maori Party. I wouldn't mind a bluegrass government though.

Jesus fucking christ. It was hard enough getting rid of winston peters last time. Really is hard to kill off a cockroach like him.

can we pick a better narrative to focus on over the next few weeks than "granola eating hippies gave winston his seats" because that one's already really boring

Boring it might be but it does reveal a pretty sick and stupid mindset amongst that lot. Personally, as someone who's reasonably centrist and thought himself dead centain to abstain this election, the behaviour of the left has pretty much ensured that I won't be voting for them in the next elections.

This is the first I've heard of tactical voting for NZF. You've got to have a box of rocks in your head if you think that getting NZF into parliament is a good thing for our country. I'm not denying that there are plenty of citizens with a box of rocks for brains, but Winston has always had a loyal following, it wasn't unthinkable that NZF would re-enter parliament.

I'm just saying there are more fun sources of drama around right now that have much better joke potential than just posting "fuck the left" over and over
I admit it would have been interesting if one of the more well resourced media networks had done some exit interviews on people who voted NZF to see why they did it though |

I suppose the sane people amongst us can celebrate one thing: the likely demise of Phil Goff. One of the most useless career politicians in the recent times will finally meet his deserved fate.
Fuck, even a Labour supporter should look forward to that. Last edited by cyc : 26th November 2011 at 23:41. |

lol the coverage on Stuff is so spiteful, every single photo they put up is of some minister from a party that did poorly looking depressed, I haven't seen a single one of National members celebrating yet

Posting from iPhone crying into my glass on the couch. Nat+Dunne+Banks = govt, and labour got annihilated, but none of that can make up for Winston returning.
And labour has lost in the worst possible way for them - lots of fresh blood is gone and all the old deadwood are back because they gave themselves safe seats or high list placings. The labour front bench is still all those old troughing fuckers from the 80s. |

sure but once you've said "fuck labour supporters who voted for NZF" there's nowhere to go with it that's either funny or interesting, that's the beginning and the end of the conversation
there's not even any potential for an argument here because nobody on NZG is glad Winston Peters got in, you'll be screaming into the void and it'll get super repetitive |

Goff's concession speech was pretty useless. The "we'll support National's policies if they are consistent with our principles" line pretty much revealed why he never stood a chance.
Stop subscribing to the Clare-Curran-School-on-Labour's-God-Given-Entitlement-to-Rule, Goffey. No one cares about your principles. Try and care about what's good for the country. |

I've gotta say Ab, I'm really impressed with how enthusiastic about NZ politics you are despite having not lived here for quite some time. I'm curious about why that is though - do you intend to come back at some future date?

Nat-Dunne-Banks-Maori is 65 by my count, assuming Bennett keeps Waitakere. Chch could go either way which might even take it to 66. That's stable. And if he gets the hippies on board with an MOU, well Labour and Hone and Winston can sit and spin in the corner.
