I opted for the Mondays as Friday is a pretty slack day anyway, and Friday beers!

I have 136 hours owing :/

Sucks cause I can't use it in some other way like you could annual leave.

apparently when we closed our old bank accounts and moved onto a mortgage i asked my wife to put away some money. she has now transfered $4000 into my^H^H our account. i feel like a bum that just found an old $20 note in the back pocket of some unwashed jeans.

Pretty illegal if I'm not mistaken - sick leave is either use it or loose it as far as I know (technically I think carrying it over to the next year isn't even allowed - well from last time I talked to DOL about it - my partner is much the same with sick leave).

IIRC carrying over sick leave isn't regulated. However you can't give your employees less sick-leave than is allowed for in law.

Yeah I wasn't sure on that - just going on what the DOL call centre had said. Most of the time they're confused about where they are let alone the legislation so I always take their advice with a grain (or kilogram) of salt.

3 record nights in a row on the fry(for each day), people travelling from up to 20ish KM away to get my ish, Styrofoam boxes work well here, no sweating. it's all about standards(channelling my inner ramsay) and quality control. we almost can't order enough premium chips/gurnard/muscles/scallops, etc

gurnard just rapes eh, the amount of portions we're going through just does my head in, considering we're a 4 night, 2hours per night establishment. turning people away sucks.

<--- so amazing.

there's this chef dude here who travelled for years, he's constantly on my case about what else i could try to set myself apart from the rest, the dude comes in to buy ciggys for his wife and we're engaged in these uber 30min conversations, going to introduce some blue cod tasters. blue cod at a takeout? crazy! will rape i reckon.

Yeah. Cod and Snapper spank the Gurnard IMO, but unfortunately supply issues won't allow you to make that upgrade to such a big demand

Snapper < Gurnard, i've had 100's of people say this to me.

In Auckland, my mouth drooled for Snapper, down here, no chance. We sell more Hoki than Snapper. We can't get enough Gurnard in. It just sells out, everytime

In Auckland(or in my entire life; despite holding the Mangere Bridge Boat Club Senior and Junior record(was a Junior when I caught it)), I had never had gurnard though. There are NIL Indians/Asians/Polynesians, you'll get maybe 1:1000 maori down here.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. There's also a reason snapper costs a lot more per kg beyond availability in supply. It's generally regarded as the superior tasting fish, but each to their own in terms of how steaky and what flavours they like with their fish.

Yes a large part of that reason is it's weighting within the QMS and the TACC levels set by Mfish. When targeted as a species there's often quite a lot of bycatch which also generates additional costs for fishers.

Very little of fish pricing is based on consumers preferences these days...

In Auckland/North Island I'd agree, down here, for some fucken reason all we get down here is Australian snapper and it's nothing like the snapper I've had through my life up in Auckland. I've been put right off, Gurnard/Cod however is most excellent.

That could be why no one around here likes it, perhaps they haven't tasted a good eating Snapper. Well, there are a couple of families that get half a dozen portions each a week, which is enough to keep us stocking it up. I'd love another supplier though, proper NZ stuff.

just checking over some purchase orders, snapper comes in at just under $80exc for 5kg. gurnard is $108exc for 5kg

Never bought fish. Shits crazy expensive.

Snapper is a tasty fish, but i'd hardly say it's 'the best'. Most greatly desired? Probably. But price /= consumption /= best.

I can't remember the last time I caught a legal Gurnard Smoked Kawhai ftw, nom nom nom.
