I think the servers are busy or something because I got an error when updating but when I tried again it's all good now. So nothing to really worry about.

Make sure you transfer all your purchased stuff over first though so you don't have to download them all again!

Why are these steps needed? Also, you missed the "restore from backup" step - if this was intended then why was your step 1 needed?

So you know how you can double tap the home button to bring up the music buttons and shit, now there's a photo icon there. It seems someone can just double tap the home button and start taking photos on your phone. I went into the photo library through there and it said my phone was locked, that's nice I thought. No one can just mess with my shit. Then I pressed the home button and it took me to my main screen without even having to unlock the phone.

Is this just my phone or is it for everyone's? Seems kinda bad if it's everyone's :/

*edit; in fact all you need to do is double tap, go into the camera and press the home screen and you're able to use the phone without unlocking it.

^ all this. while the apps are in this state i might as well turn on sync apps, let them all reset then reorganise it from itunes.

Nevermind, I had to unset my PIN and reset it and now it doesn't automatically unlock, it goes to my PIN instead.

I always dread updating Apple software :/

just you: from the front screen, swipe to unlock and verify that it's asking to unlock the phone. then open the camera. try home screen again.

Sounds like dramas for others, but for me IOS5 was the easiest OS update I've ever done. Set it running, made coffee, came back, entered my PIN, tapped "Next" a few times, done. Layout is barely changed from pre-update; the addition of "Newsstand" has bumped some icons into a new page, other than that, nothing.

For some reason the Music icon changed colour, and they kicked Video out to its own area.
So far so good.
Facebook app update looks nice.
Can't figure out how to get the integrated Tweet stuff going though. Did that make it to release?

I don't think I've ever had a smooth iOS update haha.

Irked that I can't remove the newsstand app. But other than that, notifications! Yay! Oh and locked zoom on default camera app is awesome too.

Oh, and syncing photos to all my other devices or a specific device when connected to WiFi is sweeeeeeet.

Mine was a 'mare (well... compared to usual iOS updates)

failed to verify firmware update which meant it was in restore mode for a few hours, kept trying for a few more hours and it came right.

All my icons were messed up, but no biggie

all that to so I can sign up for twitter...

I finally have a budget for being able to buy a 1/2-way decent phone. Just as well - mine is starting to die.

Problem is it's only $800... $850 at a stretch.

Suggestions? Tempting to hit up Expert Infotech for a SGS2 for $800-ish... but it's Expert Infotech... <shudder>

Can't you just get a 4G/4GS on a contract if you want an iOS phone? (haven't been paying attention to NZ release dates sorry - not sure if its delayed there or not?). Are you using pre-pay or just wanting to own the handset outright?

Flatmate is picking up his 16GB 4GS tomorrow (free on new contract with Telstra), will have a look at it and weigh up whether or not to replace my current phone

seems if you connect to a vpn, wifi sync is broken until the phone is turned off&on.

going to have to see if the phone can sync back home with vpn over wifi. it doesn't over 3g (duh) as it only works with an active wifi connection. i suspect it won't work.
