Vodafone have confirmed this with you? Reset network settings. I had the same happen after an update where the tethering option disappeared. Reseting that should sort it

If not, ask vodafone if they can check if tethering and mms are blocked for some reason on your account (they won't be...) then ring apple. Apple will tell you to ring your carrier, but you'd have done that already

It doesn't really impact me since I've always run a JB but I just think it's shit that someone has to do that just to get a standard function to work.

Well I probably would have never known about the prob until I had to change from Voda because their NZ data network is a joke, and I thought it was some dumb shit setting but after a bit of reading I found out it was an intentional change put in from 3.12 onwards.
It was easily fixed by jailbreaking but why should I have to just to have a product work as intended?

Well there was one firmware release where you couldn't select that feature. But the next one put it back again and we're talking a long time ago now (years ago).

iOS has many advantages including the patented it-just-works technology that most three year olds have success with without any help. It's not perfect though because there are people who can't use iOS even into their adult years and perhaps we're seeing an example of that right here? Coz there isn't any rational alternative explanation now is there?

Regardless, I don't see why jb'ing one's iPhone is such an enormous issue for some people - I liken the process to changing a rom on an Android phone to get different features or settings etc (unless someone wants to correct me? Never owned an Android device, so am not speaking from experience). I find it hilarious that you've bought a new phone to avoid that 10 second process of jb'ing your already rather expensive smartphone.

Yeah it was eventually but I see it's made a return recently, don't get me wrong I love the old iphone but it's that stuff that has made me try something new.
