At the risk of being a voice of dissent I have to say the last few ep's of Game of Thrones are fucking boring. So many stories going on with nothing really moving forward, and the battle scene from the latest ep whilst some gore was present most of the focus was on the fucking women hiding in the castle...

What the fuck? The spilling of Cersei's guts in her cups, leading up to the attempted murder of her own child didn't get you going? The scene between Sansa and the Broken Hound didn't have you gritting your teeth? More head explosions and shit is what you want yeah?

Man, wrong fucking series.

Got to agree (with inc). But still, by far the best show on atm.
tried veep - Meh, had a few chuckles, will probably pick it up due to the massive void.
had a look at revenge - Most boring show ever, if they'd squeezed the full length ep down to 20 mins, i'd probably watch it.

Are you fucking high? That was the greatest thing I've seen on TV in ages, that explosion alone made the episode, the budget must have been huge.

the explosion was sweet
but wish they had put a bit more effort into making the battle and the city look big. that battle was the largest battle of the war

the shots of the troops landing off the boats made it look like more then a handful of extras but the pathetic amount of troops tyrion led out for his sorte was weak, a handful of men holding that entire city..come on

and tywin rolling in with the tyrells, that was supposed to be the largest army ever put into the field

i wanna see shit on the scope of return of the king battles etc
(i know i know, budget etc) but im sure they can do better...

I thought the idea was that they were focusing only on a small part of the battle - it was obvious from the waves of landings that there were lots and lots of angry people.

But yeah - it would've been sweet if it was massive, LOTR style shit. Budget and all that though, eh.

Still, best hour of TV I've seen in ages.

40 vs 100 sounds about right to me, been a few years since I read the book but from memory...

He sees a small number of boats landing near the mudgates nobody doing anything about it. Points it out to whomever is commanding the defence, who refuses to send any aid to the gate as the troops are needed elsewhere. So Tyrion rides down to the gates, gathers some troops and leads them out before the landing troops can get organised.

if by small group of ships you mean, stannis's entire fleet which was burning/trapped against the chain

his actual army was on the other side of the river and they used the wreckage of the ships as a bridge, tyrions forces engaged them on the shore and even onto the ships at one point, where tyrion was attacked and went down, when he went down it broke the morale of his troops again and they retreated to the city which allowed the army to cross the bridge

if not for tywin's arrival they would have captured the city

On its simplest level, it's a tv show about a high school teacher who is diagnosed with cancer, realises that a) there's a good chance he's going to be gone soon, b) not going to be leaving his family very much except a shitload of debt, c) cooking crystal meth is quite lucrative and very much within his realm of ability, and d) that actually GIVEN his ability as a chemistry teacher, he's probably quite likely to produce some pretty good shit and therefore make a ton of money in a very short timeframe. All, of course, while keeping his wife, teenage son, and DEA agent / brother in law in the dark.

A tiny bit up from this level it's about the relationships he forms with others in his newly chosen industry (friendly, and not), and the adventures he has pursuing his newly chosen career path, and how it affects his family, as well as himself.

All of this is discovered very early on in the series so I don't really feel the need for spoiler tags.

In any case, people rave and rave about this show. And it is good. Very good, in fact. Worthy of, like, 'best show ever'? I'm not sure. But I'm a bit biased because ... well I can't really say without giving away more about the show than I'm comfortable with, but I will say that it's definitely worth investigating, certainly the first 1 - 6 episodes because it is quite watchable.

Bryan Cranston is, of course, incredible. Regardless of how you feel about his character and the choices he makes, there is no doubting whatsoever that he sure as fuck suits the role quite well and fleshes it out amazingly.

Yeah, that's true, it really is very well written. No doubt about that.

I think I tend to judge things a bit too harshly in general, actually. Comparing Breaking Bad to pretty much any other show in recent history there can be no doubt that it is incredibly well crafted.

Yup Breaking Bad is one of the best.
I actually went off it somewhere in the middle of season 3 but when I came back to it I couldn't believe I'd ever stopped watching it. It really is a great show that is almost always very compelling.

Grimm seems to have picked up quite a bit.
Thought it was meh initially and had to give it 5 or so eps to get into it, but now its getting quite good.
Has already been picked up for a second season too.

Same! I felt that Jesse was making incredibly stupid choices. As in, no one with even a brain-stem would make those choices, and as they'd been at great lengths to show us - Jesse has a (flawed, slow even) brain.

Anyway, 'The Fly' episode was fucking increditits. Back into it now.

Watched the first two episodes - the canadian cheese was evident, but it's no worse than a SyFy show - will probably keep watching it unless it turns into a mundane policie procedural with "future-tech" solving the case in the last 10 minutes every time. Plus it has Cancer Man from the x-files!

We've been working our way through S1 - quite enjoyable... the last one we watched was a "spot the cameo" episode (the one that introduced Franklin's dad)
