Just had a play with the Valve/HTC VR kit, holy shit it was awesome, doubly so on the kit they had hooked into a motion capture rig, although it was kinda weird walking around trying not to bump into anyone else at the demo (that I couldn't see at the time).
Apparently users confidence for walking around is higher when they have a controller in their hand, but without one, it felt odd to me for sure. I have absolutely no frame of reference as I've not tried any of the others, but any concerns I had going in that it would feel like I had phones jammed up to my eyes was dispelled pretty quickly. would try again!

Have you gus found the drivers flakey as buggery? Might just be my rig, but they are dropping in and out and crashing every few hours. Might be linked to the latest nVidia brain farts.

I'm completely sold on VR, biggest revolution I've had in gaming for a couple of decades, but since I don't have a rig powerful enough for the PC variants as of yet I'm going with Playstation VR in for generation one, and get one of the other two in gen 2 or 3 once I have a rig built

At the current exchange rate the occulus will cost your $1260 NZD due to added taxes and fees.
And because that's over $1000, you'll need to get a customs client code, which requires you sending a photo id to customs along with form NZCS 224 (http://www.customs.govt.nz/news/reso...NZCS%20224.pdf) |
7th January 2016, 09:55 | #456 |
|
yeah, was a tad more than I thought it was going to be. Also price jumps from $599USD to $699USD as soon as you select NZ which I guess is GST, then another $138USD for shipping...
|
7th January 2016, 10:14 | #457 |
|
$138 for the shipping?! WHAT THE FUCK?
|
7th January 2016, 10:18 | #458 |
|
Assume it is shipping, this is the email;
Items: Oculus Rift ($699.00 ) x 1 = $699.00 Taxes, Surcharges and Fees: Applicable shipping, taxes and duties will be added to and charged in your payment upon shipment of the unit. Order Total: $837.00 |

It seems oculus are setup as a n exporter to NZ (as they have a tax inclusive price on their website). So I'll assume the customer doesn't need a client code, nor will be stung the $50 duty fee. So its $700 usd -> $1054 NZD. |

Meh... was all keen but will wait now. Mainly concerned that not many game devs will support it if it's not mainstream. Burned by H3D, not going to make the same mistake again!

Yep, pre-order here, but doesn't ship till May.
I've read 4 reviews so far, 3 of them said nausea is still an issue, but that's always going to vary from person to person. |
