There's about 80 odd old Auckland trains & carriages currently stored in Taumaranui (awaiting sale - yeah right). Why not move them back to Auckland and convert them to temporary accommodation units. Could be done behind the old train station.

Had a hell pizza roulette ... Was expecting hotter tbh. I had sweet chilli sauce added to the pizza which I think helped reduce the apparent heat. There was one mouthful of pizza I thought may have had some extra chilli sauce but didn't actually notice the heat until I'd finished the slice.
It's an odd heat too, the heat seems to be felt first in the stomach and slowly rises. Gave me a briefly runny nose, felt warm for a minute then nothing. I've had curries that were hotter. Pro tip: don't lick your lips which further adds to the weirdness of the heat - hot on my lips but next to no heat in my mouth.

Did you try the really nasty chilli pizza they did last year? That was a hot bastard. One slice was more than enough - and I think I only managed 3 bites. (Pussy factor at maximum).
As for turning train carriages into living spaces - FFS, you can't get a wheelchair in there!! And think of the OSH issues! Have they been blessed by a Kaumatua? Those could have been destined for the Tangiwhai line you know... |

"Number of suicides may be three times as high as recorded" I wouldn't be surprised at all. When an aunty died of cancer a couple of years ago there was something about a large number of suicide deaths causing a bit of a backlog in Wellington

I get the outrage that a Gorilla was killed when it was probably the parents fault . . . but bottom line in this context the boys life has more value than the Gorilla's.

Can someone answer me this.
In a rental property, who pays for the fixed rate on a water bill. I've thought that for several years now, the tenant pays for the water usage, and the landlord pays for the fixed rates. https://www.tenancy.govt.nz/rent-bon...ther-payments/ [quote] Here’s an easy way to work out what costs the landlord has to pay for: if the costs still have to be paid when a tenant isn’t living in the house, the landlord has to pay them. For example, because the council still charges rates, the landlord has to pay them even if no one’s living in the house.[\quote] but then on the same site, the page on water doesn't explicitly say that https://www.tenancy.govt.nz/rent-bon...water-charges/ A person I work with has said they a pay the rates which I said they didnt have to, and apparantly their landlord went and checked with their lawyer and said the tenant had to pay for it. Of course she doesn't want to push it anymore because she is worried they will put up the rent (even more) or kick here out. Edit. And on the Citizens advice site, it states the landlord pays for it. http://www.cab.org.nz/vat/hle/rt/pages/othercosts.aspx Last edited by blynk : 30th May 2016 at 12:20. |

Does your tenancy agreement mention it at all?
If you're going through a rental company, chances are it'll be in there.

p.s. I've been through something similar, where the agreement didn't mention it, and the owner assumed they paid for it so they happily did, until they mentioned it to a property lawyer, which suggested they could put the costs onto the tenant (i.e. me).
The water is in the name of the owner, so I'm not the account holder, but I'm happy to just reimburse the owner based on usage. It hasn't been a problem, and accountability squarely sits on the owner, but the grey area does concern me. In future, always make sure water & power and any similar utilities are explained in the tenant agreement.

That's interesting, because I thought the change that was made meant you couldn't write it into the tenancy. Like you can't write in a clause that states the landlord does not have to give any notice.
Maybe I have always been wrong about that. I might ring the Tenancy people and just ask. |

It never ceases to amaze me how many people/companies are getting in the crap when the rebuild is providing so much business - over extension and inability to scale swiftly can't be the only things, although slow payments by the bigger players is certainly hurting the little ones.
The lucky ones would be the ones tied to the Govt contracts - the famous toolbox speech made within the first month is rumoured to be something like "Here we go boys, we should be milking this for 10-15 years!". Fletchers have enough to fall back on that they can delay payments to subbies - and there was stage when emergency repairs carried out by subbies on behalf of Fletchers were denied reimbursement if the hardware had been bought from Bunnings/Mitre10 and not Placemakers. But there are a lot of new boats sitting in driveways of small business owners these days... |

Super Wines & Gingernuts in the base Suitably spice-laden: Cardamom, Cinnamon, Clove, Nutmeg, All Spice and Ginger First time I cooked it, but turned out pretty fucking good, if I say so myself. Served with whipped cream blended with mascarpone for extra fat.
