Part of Auckland is not ok. I'm not particularly concerned about that part.

I hear having your house lit up by generator power during an outage makes for good neighbour trolling. People are awesome.

Can't access work VPN or any remote services so wondering if the office will be up and running. Newmarket office... would be sweet to have a day off from this!

The Peoples republic of Mangere were unaffected by this outage.
I have charcoal and a fireplace if there was an outage. |

Just go into work for some sweet, sweet power. There's a shower here too I think. Been burning candles and reading The Knowledge, which is fitting.
Hopefully it's up in a day or too, laundry will be an issue soon.

Sunday morning was quite surreal. Normally there's this constant hum from all the light commercial/industry down around Onehunga, sunday it was total absent. Then half of auckland being incredibly polite at lights out intersections, the other half being total arseholes. Realizing I need internet more than coffee...

Actually driving around at even substantial intersections like Mt Eden Rd and Balmoral Rd it was surprisingly courteous. Quicker trip around those areas than usual.

Apparently power is all restored, but the local cafe is still running off a generators, not sure what's up with that. Friend of a friend who worked on the substation (with but not for Vector) says that it wasn't surprising the fault occurred due to the substation construction, but that Vector managed to work some magic by getting things back up as quickly as they did.

See, not everyone is satisfied just sitting at home on their bum.

I am only just realising that ram-raids are like, a thing, in Auckland now.

Yeah, it's a meme. Plenty of people in NZ with nothing to lose, nothing to hope for picking it up.

i just got home, google maps said "47mins earlier than predicted"
for shame i ignored the motorways, went some elaborate far out way i have never been before using main roads and side streets, barely hit traffic to be fair.. maybe 3 or 4 3-5min queues, pretty decent. some people are looking at 2-3hour journeys |

So from when I drove out of the carpark at 5:45pm in Wiri to my home in Mt Wellington it took me 16 minutes, here is the kicker I was driving pretty much 80K on the motorway to the Mt Wellington off ramp. Go figure. Met service can't predict crap, I think I had the wipers on wiping every 5 seconds didn't see any of the "70mm of rain from 5pm to 7 pm" prediction. |

What an awful situation. I personally cannot imagine how "caving" and "heavy rain" could go together.

It is Whangarei Boys High. I can't imagine the grim day-to-day of getting kids through the system.
It sounds like a dynamic situation being forced upon the box-ticking exercise that education is, with tragic results.
