• Put your money where your mouth is and make some predictions for 2009
• Predictions are not limited to consoles - PC's, Macs, handhelds etc. are all fair game
• With luck and admins willing, the thread will be LOCKED, probably at the end of January, so get in quick
• We'll unlock the thread at the end of the year and laugh at how wrong we all were
• Try to use some formatting in your post so we can actually read it
• Predictions must be measurable - whether you're ultimately correct must be determinable
• Keep the flaming down
• There are no prizes
• There is no cake

My nice (and insanely crazy) predictions for 2009

• Publishers start doing away with DRM on PC platforms, either in favor for shipping with 1 or using default STEAM DRM (which is more acceptable)
• More publishers will jump onto Steam. This'll seem like a decrease in PC games sales (as only retail store sales are tracked atm) but will actually increase indy game sales by 25%
• PS3 sales will continue downwards outside of japan. Even after the release of FF13 and a price drop. I predict less PS3 sales in 2009 then 2008
• By end of 2009, Microsoft will announce the next gen xbox.
• By end of year 2009, Nintendo will announce a HD Wii, releasing it in 2010
• Intel will enter the gaming GPU market by producing the fastest card on the market. AMD and Nvidia are forced to downsize as a result (This is a BIG gamble prediction lol)
• TB will not own a Ps3 by the end of the year.
• id software hit financial trouble due to rapid expansion. id accept a deal to be brought out by a publisher or sell part of the company (35%). If id are completely brought out JC will leave id and focus on his rockets

My predictions for 09

-TB to get a PS3 and thus some credibility in the console forum
- id's Rage game will look wonderful, if somewhat plastic but the game will suck.
- Kill Zone 2 will rock
- PS3 Playtv turns into vaporware in NZ/AUS
- Duke Nukem Forever is released.

Sims3 will be the biggest selling title of the year.
Second biggest title will be the first Sims3 expansion that EA will release before the end of 2009.

Console

• PS3 slim/compact announcement
• Wii Controller 2.0 release
• Sony come up with a way to download/copy across old psx/ps2 games and have them emulated with software.
• DLC becomes more and more the main way to get console games their content. Expansions, mini content patches become much more popular with devs.
• SF4 dies down quickly after release, lag and other online issues are the main reason
• Nintendo continue to make Wii/DS games which are much more targeted towards people that don't normally play games. Actual Nintendo gamers focus more on other consoles
• Square-Enix games are still largely Sony based, even with the 360 FF13 release.

PC

• Starcraft 2 release - GOTY
• Diablo 3 is delayed
• WoW expansion based in the Maelstrom is announced at Blizzcon
• ID announces a sequal, Everyone still playing Quake 3
• WoW continues to be the #1 MMO, some recent releases are rumoured to be closing shop (I'm thinking AoC)
• Sims 3 released with horrible release day issues due to EA stepping up their game on the battle versus Steam, hoping their own DLC system will prevail.
• Red Alert 3 expansion rushed, EA still sucks.
• Company of Heroes expansion released, disapointment.

• A new mario game will be announced for Wii
• A new mario game will be announced for DS
• A new Sonic & Mario game will be announced for Wii
• Nintendo will NOT announce the DSi for outside of Japan
• The PSP2 will begin to get some concrete rumours but will NOT be announced in 2009
• GTAV will be announced
• GTA: Chinatown wars will be a big success (1.5M+), bucking the trend of third parties on Nintendo hardware. A sequel will be announced.
• StarCraft II will not be released this year
• Diablo III will not be released this year
• A Diablo game will be announced for a handheld - my pick: Diablo 2 for PSP or a Diablo toon-shaded game for DS
• No new consoles will be announced by any of the big 3 (excluding revisions like the PSP4000 which will be announced officially - I mean actual new generations, including in the handheld space)
• Neither Gran Turismo nor Final Fantasy will be released
• Tomb Raider will be cancelled
• Need for Speed will be cancelled
• A sequel to Mirrors Edge will be announced then cancelled
• The iphone will continue to consolidate its sideward slide into the videogame space, seeing major releases / announcements from most of the major publishers in many of their major (and new) franchises

• Half Life 2 Episode 3 will be released 4th quarter, with Portal 2.
• Duke Nuken Forever 4th Quarter
• Mech Warrior PC franchise will be restarted (more of a wish then a prediction:P)
• WoW will continue to be No.1 MMO by a long way (5Mill+ Subscribers to next closest)
• PS3 mod chipped/cracked
• Bio Shock 2 released

How many patches did it get in the first 2 months of release? 5 or 6? Maybe it rocked when they *finally* got it right, but by that stage it most certainly wasn't the 'killer app' it was touted as being.

It was pretty, real pretty, but the amount of screwing around with gameplay killed any chance of it rocking.

1. Partly happened.
2. Hard to judge, although a lot of games did dual publish
3. wrong here, ps3 sold nearly 1:1 with wii in japan this year!

2010 PREDICTIONS!

1. Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 won't get released this year
2. Ps3 will come within 500,000 units of the xbox 360 by the end of the year (its only 5.x million behind atm)
3. New Super mario bros will end 2010 with a total of over 25 million sales.
4. EA hits the shit, does a big restructure
5. Take 2 as well
6. Rage is released later in the year, met with mixed reviews, bland sales, someone's head rolls for it.

imo PSP Go counts, Age of Conan (MMORPG) was 08? Call on the 3D gaming as well.
