I know Phant's comment was in jest, but... even the offspring of a parent and child is unlikely to have any massive genetic screwups. It's LESS unlikely than in the case of the offspring of two random people from the entire human population, but it's still not that likely. I would have to check the available literature to give you exact numbers, but my point is... (and I paraphrase from a conversation I'm having with Her Bikininess right now) yeah, there's a chance of undesirable recessive-reinforcement between relatives, but most people are so sure that they're Just Plain Right and it's Just Plain Wrong that they haven't bothered to check the facts. It's not that likely even between parents and their own children, and with cousins it's so unlikely as to be almost equivalent to two random people. Of course, I will defer if any contradictory scientific evidence is presented.
