Those 'basics' books, especially the older ones have some really solid principles which aren't really taught these days. I have quite a few text books from the 80s and they have really solid ideas on pasaveer channels and wisconsin mounds, which although are archaic by todays standards are still used by quite a few on-site and cluster treatment stations, which you have a fair few of in northland. Never throw away text books!
