Trump was a tool put to effective use by those seeking to savage the US. A tool of course made possible by the failings of the US, especially the long term efforts of politicians to disenfranchise voters.
I figure some smart people have a name for this kind of conflict. It's not the Cold War, but it's still a kind of violent, albeit non-physical, power struggle.
