IMHO they should take a leaf out of the EQ system. Insteed of dropping specific class loot they should drop armour molds/patterns divided into plate - mail - leather - cloth which you hand in to an NPC that will give you your class specific piece.
IE insteed of Nef dropping Bloodfang chest and Nemesis Robe he would drops a Leather Chest Pattern and a Cloth Robe pattern
