I'd like to see people shift from the large monoliths to smaller < 10 self hosted federated communities. Does require nerd setup and maintenance. Fit for purpose until it isn't. Can be self contained like nzgames, or connect to other instances. Not for everyone or the next big thing.
For example I'm running a pleroma instance which I'm using to connect to people running Mastodon,Pixelfed,Writeas, which is cool in a geeky way, but not super important. Pluses, no ads or tracking, chronological posts. Not good for connecting to everyone on the planet.
