My thoughts exactly.
I would have expected something along the lines of...
"Do those legs go all the way up?"
"Those boots were made for walking... Which is rather unfortunate as due to her deformity she does very little of that."
"She's an organic version of a Mech!"
If you look completely 'non-standard' and that's the worst you get then you should count yourself lucky (at least on the abuse from random strangers front).
