The Left is the end of the political spectrum that holds dear principles of looking forward, of progress, of radical change in pursuit of ideals, while the Right is about looking backward to the past for lessons, about restraint, about rejecting change for change's sake, about strong institutions acting as brakes on the emotions of the mob. Now in the USA we have a situation where the administration is both ends of the spectrum. The US has a progressive government trying to rebuild traditional institutions. No-one knows what the fuck is going to happen.
