It's possible that Lundy murdered them much later - like 2am in the morning. The guesstimated time of death was based on the digestion time of the food in the victims' stomachs, and those estimates are not an exact science. Lundy could then have driven back to Petone at his leisure, and the computer thing would be irrelevant.
