At the moment we have no fucking idea. Like, the disease is smashing rich countries with modern hospitals and leaving third world countries without functioning health systems relatively unscathed, and we can't even explain that.
There is as yet no actual explanation for why some places have been hit hard and some haven't. Superspreaders? Indoor culture? Aversion to facemasks? Obesity? Genetics? Fuck knows.
