Yep. Can nametag any Mob: Friendly or otherwise. Once nametagged, they won't despawn.
Also mobs that can pick things up OTHER than endermen, you can give them an object (EG: block of dirt) and they won't drop the dirt or despawn (so skeles, zombies, ZPMs)
Tamed mobs don't despawn.
Mobs that spawned from being bred don't despawn. No idea if mobs that you breed with other mobs despawn or not. (Pigs, Cows, Mooshrooms, Cats, Dogs, Sheep, etc)
