A mariachi ogre snorkel

I was talking to a mate of mine who mentioned there were some interesting ruined buildings in the Adelaide Hills close to my house. So I thought what the hell, take the dog for a walk, check it out.

Turns out the ruins are what's left of the main buildings of a 19th-century nursery and garden complex. Copypaste:
Quote:
This nursery was the leading commercial nursery in South Australia during the late 19th century. In 1854, 68 acres of land was purchased with subsequent acquisitions increasing the property to nearly 500 acres. The nursery was formally established in 1875 and included shade-houses, glass and hot houses, 300 varieties of orchids, 600 varieties of roses and 90 acres of fruit trees, including 500,000 apple, plum and cherry trees, 100,000 orange trees and 100,000 vines. They also specialised in rare and exotic plants. Two major storms in 1913 caused irreparable damage to the Nursery from which it never recovered.
So where am I going with this? Only to say that the whole place gave me a massive Diablo 2 Act II deja vu trip. All I had to do was blot out the gum trees (and I'll be honest, there are a few) in the background and hum desert.mp3, and I was there. Seriously, I was drumming Uelmen's desert percussion riff with my hands on my thighs as I walked around.

You had your standard ruined buildings:

The overgrown broken terraces, with what looks like a cordyline standing in for the desert palm. (Someone must have removed the corpse of the Act II merc impaled on the pole at left):

Any second now a horde of shuffling zombies oozing plague is going to come around one of these corners:

There was an intricate network of ruined trenches and pipes that must once have been the nursery's water system. I was looking for the sign that said Sewers Level 1.

The sun started going down, and through an archway a few metres away from where I was standing, the last rays of the sun were illuminating the most welcome of features: a well. (cue gulping sound, health going up)

Next time I'm taking my Ipod with Act II theme music.

Guess you had to be there
