I agree. The next question is that with Maori not being a homogeneous group, what people (or group(s)) have a mandate to define tikanga, and when something is being disrespectful & should change? From the outside this opinion piece seems a bit over the top but maybe it is something deemed deeply offensive in Maoridom?
