Even the term "soft science" is a result of hegemonic masculinity imposing its value system on waffle. By calling it "soft" we take away it's power and virility. Furthermore, the term "waffle" is regarded as "sweet" and not masculine. Beneath this seemingly innocent phrase lies a patriarchal suggestion: food and femininity go hand in hand - the all-to-familiar social construct of women belonging in the kitchen.
