HENCE WHY FOREVER ALONE

Quake, Floating Point, and the Intel Pentium

I've been trying to learn as much as I can about CPU architecture, and this video is quite interesting.

People just take for granted that a computer does a thing, but a computer can do fuck all or heaps. Then there's branch prediction, out of order operation, or co-processing.

I'm trying to get to low MHz but high "capacity" CPUs. I want reprogrammable computing, rather than "throw away and buy a new one" CPUs.

I don't know why things can't run slightly higher than human experience, and still do the fings. 1MHz is my naive target speed. Even 8MHz is reasonable.
Why 5GHz if we're working at 100Hz screen updates? Seems like a bunch of shite to achieve our purposes. I'm happy to be wrong, but fuck, I'd like to know why.
