Just about finished with "Blood Music" by Greg Bear....
Excellent novel - better than the original short story to be honest. Deals with the idea of a genetically engineered plauge of sorts - though not perhaps in the way you would image. Brings up some excellent questions about the nature of intelligence even if it does get a bit "wiggy" with the physics at the end of the book!
