So Ms Smith marries Mr Blogg, and after the wedding Ms Smith has to drop her Smith last name and take up Blogg's family name.
I say everybody keep their last names. For their kids, the last name can be a compound Blogg-Smith or Smith-Blogg. (I know some people do this.)
